Three of the young men lrom
this section serving in the armed
forces of the United States in the
Pacific war area are First Sergeant
D. L. Robbins, Seaman William
Woodrow Bryant, and Private Her
man Otis Vaughan.
Robbins, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Robbins of 85 Jackson Street,
this city, is with the U. S. Army in
the Philippine Islands. At the last
report he was stationed at Manila
Bay, which is now one of the "hot
spots” of the Philippines as the
Japanese seek to take the islands.
Bryant, son of H. F. Bryant, Star
Route, Roanoke Rapids, has been
in the Navy for three years. He
was stationed on the U.S.S. South
ard, a mine sweeper, at Pearl Har
bor, Hawaii, when the Japs blast
ed that section in a bombing attack
on December 7. A telegram to his
relatives here on December 19,
stated that he was “OJS.”
Vaughan is the son of Harvey
Vaughan of this city, and is with
the Army in the Philippine
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rook and
Earl, Jr., spent the Christmas hol
idays in Washington, D. C, and
Baltimore, Md.
