IN WELDON SAT.
1 750 Farmers Hear
Plans For Year
Talked At Meet.
The importance of agriculture in
the present world-wide emergency
and plans for financing changed
farming operations resulting from
the defense program were empha
sized to stockholders of the Wel
don Production Credit Association
in annual meeting at the high
school building here Saturday
morning. Reports covering the as
sociation’s operations during the
past year were also presented and
two directors were elected. 760
farmers from Northampton and
Halifax counties attended this
meeting.
W. E. Smith, president of the
association, presided and in open
ing the meeting he called upon
those present to think seriously of
“the challenge to our freedom and
the important part we can play in
the struggle for victory.” He point
ed out that the Weldon association,
like the other 524 production credit
associations throughout the coun
try, would adapt its service to
changing conditions with the view
of being of the most possible aid
in helping to meet the need for
additional credit for production
and general agricultural purposes.
Reports given by B. N. Capel,
secretary-treasurer, indicated that
during 1941 the association made
I loans in the amount of $484,128.00
to 485 members. Mr. Capel stated
> that members now own $27,785.00
in capital stock and that accumu
lated reserves amount to $33,403.00.
J. R, Jackson, representative of
the Production Credit Corporation,
which supervises production credit
associations in North Carolina,
South Carolina, Georgia, and Flori
da, addressed the group briefly.
He referred to the production
credit association as “the farmer’s
own credit institution, standing
■ -
ready to help him do his part to
help his country win the war.”
W. J. Long and H. S. Ellis of
Northampton county were select
ed directors for terms of three
years. Other members of the Board
are W. E. Smith, J. M. Person,
and L. W. Hedspeth.
