J. Alford, Treasurer. E. B. Manning explained that the returned funds from Associated Charities to the Chest were an ac cumulation for the period of years for 1939, 1940 and 1941. The Trustees decided to invest approximately $5,000. of the Chest reserve funds in Defense Bonds and authorized the Treasurer to make the purchase. The annual meeting was then ad journed and the regular Trustees meeting was held. Norman Scribner, Boy Scout Ex ecutive, was a visitor at the meet ign and was introduced to the Trustees. The election of officers for 1942 was held and they are as follows: E H. Graves, President; W. H. Pruden, 1st Vice-President; Dr. J. W. Martin, 2nd Vice-President; T. J. Alford, Treasurer; H. B. Speight, Secretary. President Graves took over of fice and conducted the rest of the meeting. Members of the Civilian Defense Committee V. E. McDowell and C. W. Davis appeared before the Trustees and made a request for $500. to be used for necessary ex penditures. After discussing the request pro and con the Trustees decided that the Committee should approach other sources as Chest funds were donated for charitable, philanthropic and character build ing work and there was a question whether this money should be used for other purposes. However, the Chest will reconsider the re quest if it is necessary. The meeting then adjourned. Those present at the meeting were: A. Meikle, G. R. Cross, Rev. G. L. Price, B. E. Speight, E. B. Manning, E. H. Graves, R. L. Edwards, J. B. Archer, Terry Dra per, T. L. Martin, Miss Elizabeth Brown, Mrs. E. D. Harbour, Mrs. T. M. Jenkins, Miss Evelyn Mul len, Mrs. R. L. Towe, T. J. Alford, W. H. Pruden, Dr. J. W. Martin, F M. Sherry and Mrs. W. A. Thorne. Also present were: Mrs. Clayton Gurley, Miss Madeline Lipscomb, Don P. Tillar and Nor man Scribner. Seaboard Faculty Will Present Play ■* " Members of the Seaboard high school faculty are beginning re hearsals on a one-act play to be presented some time in February. The mountain-folk comedy entitled “August Angel,” has been cast with the following teachers: Misses Eunice Stacey, Edith C. Taylor, Estelle Adams, and Marjorie Wil liams, Mrs. P. A. Bullock, and Principal F. O. Birdsall. Plans are being made for a one act high school play to be present ed on the same night.
