HALIFAX CO-OP MEETING Halifax County stockholders and patrons of the Farmers Coopera tive Exchange and members of the Cotton Association will gather in the County Agricultural Building in Halifax on Thursday, March 19, at 2:30 o’clock for their annual joint meeting. Principal speaker at the session will be M. G. Mann, general mana ger of both the North Carolina Cotton Growers Cooperative Asso ciation and the Farmers Coopera tive Exchange, who will report on the past years’ operations of both cooperatives. In addition a com plete report on the operations of the Halifax FCX Service will be given. me program win also include the election of an advisory board around the local FCX for the en suing year and the election of dele gates to attend the Cotton Asso ciation district meeting at which candidates will be nominated for director of this district. The meeting is open to the pub lic and all interested in agriculture are invited to attend. In view, however, of the government’s ap peal for the conservation of ve hicles ar.d motor fuel, officials of the cooperatives do not feel that it would be in keeping with the spirit of the time’, to urge farm ers to make a special trip to at tend. The officers pointed out , hut the meeting schedule has been an nounced car y in t he hope that Halifax County f rmers can plan one of their regular trips to Hali fax in such a way that they can attend without having to do any extra driving. TWO HURT AS TRAIN HITS TRUCK Two Enfield men were in a Rocky Mount hospital today with serious injuries suffered when the truck in which they were riding was struck by a northbound At lantic Coast Line passenger train at a crossing in Enfield late Wed nesday afternoon. The injured were: Dock Wini fred, white, driver of the truck, and John Higgins, his colored helper. Both suffered lacerations of the head and body and severe fractures. Hospital attaches said that the extent of their injuries had not yet been determined. Eyewitnesses to the crash said that Winifred evidently did not see the stop signal at the crossing, in the heart of the town, and crossed the track in front of thp train. The impact carried the truck several yards down the track. The truck was owned by Jim Harris of Enfield. The train which struck the truck was loaded with soldiers, but none of the soldiers or other passengers on the train were in jured. ■ ■ rn m nomox wiud Holds Meeting The Halifax community club, formerly the Ruritan club, met on Tuesday night at the John Paul Jones dining hall, with the presi dent, Quinton Gregory, presiding. The club went on record as giv ing its support to the Halifax Wo man’s Club in their annual clean up campaign this spring. The next meeting of the club will be held in the dining hall on March 10. George Austin Hux and V. C. Matthews were in charge of the program on Tuesday night.
