mmmammmm nhki jiii!,!illll PROGRAM BOOKED FOR IMPERIAL BRINGS VARIETY - fc Jeffrey Lynn In Mystery Picture Shows Wedn'sday Requests have been made from time to time for the return of great pictures of the past year, and Manager Lyle Wilson, of the local theatres, is making every ef for to give his patrons what they want and when they want it. With this in mind ,he has book ed Joan Bennett and Don Ameche in “Confirm or Deny” for a return showing here on Sunday of next week. Those who saw “Confirm or Deny” when it played here last winter will want to see it again, and those who failed to see it when it was here before, will wel come this opportunity of seeing it. v Two of the greatest screen and radio stars in Hollywood make up the cast and perform in a picture which rated high among the better pictures of the past year. * * * * * * Monday and Tuesday’s attrac tion, “Captain of the Clouds”, has been reviewed on the previous page. Playing the Imperial at popular prices, this latest addition to the long list of epic aviation pictures presents to Roanoke Rap ids theater goers every opportuni ty of seeing this picture that is at present the talk of the country. « ****** The novelty of bodies dissolving and disappearing on the screen, is merely a camera trick, but in the picture “The Body Disappears”, this trick brings about one of the most interesting plots yet incor porated into a motion picture. Starring in “The Body Disap pears” is Jeffrey Lynn and Jane Wyman, with Edward Everett Hor ton and Willie Best as added at tractions. The story relates to the college professor, played by Horton, whose serum restores life to the dead, and his experiences with the wealthy Lynn, who at the time is madly in love with a girl who seeks to marry him for his mon ey. 4-Vm vxlrvfr o rl m in_ isters his serum to Lynn, who dis appears on the screen, but is heard and moves around just as if he could be seen. With this ad vantage, Lynn finds out about the plot of the girl to marry him for his money, and he promptly throws her over and falls in love with the professor’s daughter, played by Miss Wyman. The story is complicated, how ever, when a group of doctors term Horton insane and confine him to an institution. With Lynn walking around invisible, and "with Horton as his only hope of re turning to natural life, something must be done. He gets the serum administered to Miss Wyman and the two succeed in springing Hor ton from the institution, after which he gives Lynn and Miss Wyman the antidote that brings them back to visibility. This is a picture that the en tire family will enjoy and is one that is different from the other mystery pictures. You must see it. ****** “The Adventures of Martin E den” come to life on the Imperial screen on Thursday and Friday, with Glenn Ford playing the lead and title role. The story deals with an incident in the life of Martin Eden, who determines to prove that a ship mate imprisoned on a charge of mutiny has been unjustly con victed. He is met by discourage ment on every hand, but pushes through to Success. But in doing so, he meets with some of the most astonishing adventures; e nough to make this one of the screen’s greatest sea pictures. Others in the cast are Claire Trevor, Evelyn Keyes, Stuart Er vin and Frank Conroy. ****** Saturday’s attraction at the Im perial is Don “Red” Barry in “Jes se James, Jr.", one of the best Western pictures of the year, in which the young Western star plays the role of a son of the fa mous bandit, and in which the younger James attempts to clear up and hold good his father’s name. The added attraction at the Im perial Saturday is another chapter of “The Spy Smashers”. • • • • :: Cabary-Thelma t±±±±±i±££±±!t££*£. (Crowded out last week) Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
