The first game will begin at 8:30 p.m. with Russ DeBerry, “Speed” Hux and “Blon die” Stewart expected to do the 4 Romanco hurling. In the State Tournament last year the Bears held the Romances to a 1 to 0, fourteen inning victory. It is ru mored that the Bears are being coached this season by Bill Branch, who caught for the Roanoke Rap ids Owls, 1938 N. C. Semi-pro champs. The admission to these games will be twenty cents and no City League passes will be honored. DeBerry And Lattimore Win As Romancos And All Stars Split Pair .t. ___ Roms take Opener 8-1; Stars Top In Nightcap, 1 to 0 The league-leading Romancos and the City League All-Stars di vided a doubleheader Saturday night at Ledgerwood Park. The Romancos won the first contest, 8 to 1, behind the four hit pitching of Russ DeBerry. The Romancos collected seven hits off Knox Rogers and Lloyd Neth ercutt, All-Star hurlers, to score their eight runs. They were aid ed in the attempt by two errors by the stars. “Red" Hansley led the winners at bat with two hits for three trips to the plate. “Bald y” Harris, center fielder, led the all-stars with two for two. In th" second game the stars nosed out the Romancos by the margin of I to 0. Alvin i_ntti more of Patterson limited the Roms to two safeties while his mates got five.
