Old Tradition Shattered GIRLS OLDER THAN MATES Marriage Licenses Show _ --- — One of the employees in the Register of Deeds office at Hali fax recently remraked how unus ual that now in practically every case that applied for licenses, the girl was at least a few months older than the boy. Arm Bands Are Ready For The Canteen Group The Canteen Group who com pleted a course of instruction under Miss Virginia Blount can get their arm bands from the Canteen Captain, Mrs. F. G. Jarman. The bands are avail able at the Red Cross Surgical Dressings Room, corner Tenth and Henry Streets, Rosemary, between the hours of 2:30 to 4:30 and 7:30 to 9:30 P. M. any week, Monday through Friday. Miss Blount has given Mrs. Jar man a list of the names of all who are entitled to the arm bands. Civil WaTVet Will Soon Be A Centenarian Charlie Riggan, who will cele brate his 100th birthday in Oc tober, is visiting his children in the Aurelian Springs section. Mr .Riggan is said to be one of the few remaining Civil War veterans in this section of the state. He participated in the famous charge that Pickett made at Gettysburg, it is re ported. Firemen’s Meeting Among the Halifax Firemen at tending the regular meeting and bar-b-que supper of the Roanoke Firemen’s Association in Whitak ers Tuesday night were Messrs. G. A. Hux, Jr., G. D. Several progressions were played before the scores were add ed and the highest score for the evening was made by Miss Fran ces Wilson, and the consolation went to Mrs. Hicks Hill. A re freshing iced drink with sand wiches and cookies was enjoyed at ten thirty.
