in the near future. This card

There have been several of the
boys asking about the Council
camp to be held this year. The
East Carolina Council plans to
hold council meeting at New Bern
This camp is to be conducted
through the summer and all scouts
will be given the opportunity to
participate in this camp. More
news about this later,but there
will definitely be a camp for the
council this year.

Mr. Don Tillar has completed
the arrangements for our district
Camporee to be held May 14, 15
and 16 at Camp Whetstone, the
new camp site for Halifax district.
Mr. Clyde Liske is in charge of
the program for the Camporee,
and we feel that a swell time will
be had by all that atend as Mr.
Liske is an experienced camporee
man having had charge of the
Council Camporee that was held
here in the city last year. So get
ready for a swell time you Scouts.

Time for another Scoutmaster
meeting. I would like to see all
you scoutmasters at Mr. Norman
Scrivener's house about 8 o’clock
Monday night May 3. There is
lots of talk about, with Camporee
coming up, and I would like to see
every one of the Scoutmasters
present at this meeting. Mr. Tillar
has completed his work and now
it is time for us to begin work.
Let’s all turn out.
******
We are fortunate in having Mr.
Scrivener around with us for a
part of each week. We know it is
bad for Norman, but feel we are
in luck in his not being able to
find a house down in Kinston.

We are glad to welcome Mr.
John Carras into our midst. Mr.
Carras has a real treat for the
1 scout leaders of this city Wed
nesday night. John has arranged
a small banquet for the scout lead
ers and plans to give a short talk
on the opportunities that the boys
of Roanoke Rapids have over
those other countries. We un
derstand that Mr. Carras plans
to make this an annual affair, so
you boys that do not get to this
one will have the opportunity of
going to the next that John holds,
only the leaders are invited so
some of you other boys had better
get busy and make this gather
ing next year.

Sometime ago I asked all the
Scoutmasters to have the news
from their troops sent me. I am
glad to see that troop No. 142
has sent their news. If you boys
can’t find me leave it at the Her
ald office and I will get it from
there. It is nice to get the news
direct from you boys.
******
It seems that troop No. 142 is
producing real scouts. Recently
the troop committee decided to a
ward a First Aid Kit to the Scout
that built the best Bird house,
and then Mr. Pruden the chairman
of the troop commitee decided to
award a scout hatchet to the best
all round scout in his troop. Be
lieve it or not the same boy won
both. Congratulations to Scout Bil
ly Clemmer the scout to be award
ed both prizes. You other boys
had better wake up or Billy will
be so far ahead of you that you
will never catch him. He is new
in your troop, but looks like he
will make one of the best.
