' GIRL SCOUT NEWS |
Play Day on Saturday:
If Saturday, May 1st is as
pretty day ar Saturday April 24th,
Girl Scout Troops should have a
most enjoyable day! Troops have
been busily engaged in cleaning
off sites in the vicinity of the Hut
®or several weeks in preparation
for the occasion. The city truck
drivers have been most coopera
tive in removing trash which
scouts pile up. We also appreciate
the use of property for our ac
^vities. Following is a schedule
of the day:
10 a. m., assembly of all troops
at the Scout Hut. (Troops receive
10 points for punctuality.) This is
your chance to “cash in” a few
joints.
10:30 a. m., Scouts report to
cook-out sites and make prepara
tion for the day, - setting up the
sites to best advantage, practicing
necessary techniques, and caring
^>r troop business.
12:30 p. m., lunch. All troops
will want to work by schedule in
order to make the most of the
day.
2:30 p. m. - 4:30 p. m., Contest,
^lays softball. Intermediate troops
will play at 2:30; Senior troops
at 3:30.
5:00 p. m., flag ceremony fol
lowed by badges and wards.
Visitors from Rocky Mount
- Expected:
Miss Emily White, Executive
Secretary of Rocky Mount Girl
Scouts is expected to be with us.
Miss White will bring several Se
M)r Scouts and perhaps one or
*o leaders. Rocky Mount is just
beginning a program for Senior
Scouts as was explained when
Miss White and Mrs. Guy Barnes
of the G. S. Council, visited the
Girl Scouts office here last week.
iflWor Service Scouts to Help with
Brownie and Intermediate Troopss
Several Scouts plan to assist
leaders of several of the troops
with the activities on Saturday.
Scouts are planning to meet with
tflre troops during meetings this
week wherever possible.
Troop 3 recently held a Mem
bership Party at which time con
tributions to the Juliette Low Me
morial Fund were presented. Each
.'£tout made her contribution in
accord with the number of years
she has been Scouting.
As the majority of the 22 Scouts
of the troop are eligible for Senior
Scouting, the troop was registered
a Senior troop with one Inter
mediate Patrol. This makes the
third Senior Troop in Roanoke
Rapids.
New Publications in the Girl Scout
.
Office
“The Camping Magazine,” “Vic
tory Gardens,” - How Brownie
Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Senior
Scouts can help insure home food
supply. “Nature Activities”-Week
by week throughout the year.
“Farm Aides” - A guide for group
leaders. These publications along
with many others in the office
will prove helpful to leaders, troop
committee members, council mem
bers, and to scouts. Use them
and know the Girl Scout program,
that is the best way to make use
of it in Roanoke Rapids.
