CONTIVED NEXT WEEK OPA MEETING EXPLAINED BY T. S. JOHNSON Says Halifax Board In Accordance On Gas Rationing Theodore S. Johnson, district director of the Office of Price Administration, held a meeting at Halifax last week to which mem bers of the press and others were excluded, explaining to county newspapermen that he would send them a report of the meeting pending his return to his office in Raleigh. He this week issued the following statement to the press relative to the meeting: “It is well-nigh impossible to carry out the program of ration ing and price control to the en tire satisfaction of every person. Some people are certain to be denied their requests and to be adversely affected by price con trol. It is, of course, the obliga tion of every War Price and Ra tioning Board to so conduct its operations as to be fair and just and to show no discrimination to any person because of either race, creed or political affiliation The is a difficult task, and it is the duty of every citizen to uphold 'he members of the War Price and Rationing Boards in their En deavors. “Our check up on the Gasoline Panel at Halifax, a check up which is made regularly at all hoards, disclosed that the gaso line issuances at the Halifax Board are more nearly in accord ance with the regulations and the policy of the OPA than those of any board which we have re viewed in the last several weeks. “The regulations provide that whenever any person desires to protest or appeal any decision or act of the panel members or the employed personnel they will have full, free opportunity to present their complaint to the War Price and Rationing Board through its Chairman. The board is expected to, and 1 am sure will, give care ful and impartial consideration to such complaints. If the complaint ant is not satisfied with the action of the board, he may appeal to the District Director and, if he de sires, to the Regional Office and even to the National Office. “The War Price and Rationing Boards are established in order to serve the citizens of the coun ties as conveniently as possible consistent with the funds avail able for the board operations. Hal ifax County is one of two counties having three boards. Five countie: ■ have two boards each and the re- , ; maining forty-five counties in this ; District are served by one board each. We believe there is a real I need for three boards in Halifax County, and \v ire confident that the hoard at Halifax merits the continued confidence and the loy al support of the people served by it. “Very truly yours, Theodore S. Johnson, District Director.” Service Man In City Working On Drink Machines Clayton L.
