CRAWLEY FUNERAL Mrs. Nora Crawley, age 57, of the Ebenezer Community, passed Away " quietly at her home oh Thursday a. m., at 3:10, Decem ber 23rd. Funeral services were held at Ebenezer Church on Fri day p. m. at 3:30 o'clock, Dec ember 24th. Services were con ducted by her pastor, Rev. W. Frank Walters of Halifax, assisted by a former pastor, and particular friend of the family, Rev. Will iam Towe, of Rocky Mount. Mrs. Crawley was the former Leonora Anne Hux, daughter of the late Alexander Austin, and Sarah Britt Hux of Halifax Coun ty. Being left an orphan at the age of 7 weeks, she was reared by a kind and loving aunt, Mrs. J. H. Burt, deceased, also of Hali fax County. At an early age she joined Ebenezer Methodist Church and through life she was a faith ful member and a great lover of her church and community. On January 20th, 1904, she was married to the late Albert Ellis Crawley of Halifax County, who preceuou uci tv «o*v D»-.- — * To this union, ten children wero born, of whom eight now survive. Mrs. Crawley's health had been declining for years, yet she had been confined to her bed three months before death came. Survivors are her children, Mrs. L. P. Hatley of Rocky Mount, Mrs. Jack Taylor of Enfield; Mrs. H. F. Dickens, of Roanoke Rap ids; Mrs. T. O. Barnes, of Ebene zer; Pfc. William Towe Crawley of Rosewell, New Mexico; Hyder Ferguson Crawley of Hawkins Chapel; Roy Crawley, and Nora Hazel Crawley of the home. Five sisters, Mrs. W. D. Hux, Mrs. B. T. Hux, Mrs. B. F. Hux, Mrs. E. W. Dickens, and Mrs. C. M. Dic kens, all near Darlington. Two brothers, M. W. Hux of Ebenezer; and G. A. Hux of Halifax, seven teen grandchildren, and a hoet of neices and nephews. Pallbearers and flower girls were nephews and neices of the de ceased. TOWN TALK Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Boykins of Halifax were visitors in town last week. Miss Evelyn Show has returned to Woman's College in Greensboro, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Show. Mrs. Wilmer Lee Cagle spent last week-end in Charlotte with, her husband, Pfc. Wilmer Lee Cagle. Mr. and Mrs. Buck Oliver of Raleigh, spent a few days here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver are former residents of this city. Dr. B. Weathers, W. A. Thorne and Harry Weathers spent the week-end in Fort Landing. Pfc. Speight Here Pfc. A. B. The Office of Defense Transportation has Cut the Sup ly of Gasoline for Taxis THIRTY PER CENT in Roanoke1 Rapids, as of January 1,1944. This means that all taxicabs in Roanoke Rapids which use legal gasoline are cut THIRTY PER CENT in the number of trips or the distance they can make; it also means that taxi drivers will have their income cut THIRTY PER CENT. Because we did not have enough gasoline on last Saturday night, we had to stop our taxis, which we did not want to do . . . but we had no gas left. In order to keep furnishing taxicab service to our customers and for those emergency calls when you need us, it will be necessary to raise our prices. Some of the prices have been raised from 8 to 10 per cent ; others have been raised from 20 to 25 per cent.
