WELDON NEWS Mrs. C. M. Shaw and daughter have returned from a visit to Bun Level. Miss Christine Alston has re turned to Richmond, after spend ing the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Alston. Mrs. Hugh Mozley spent Fri day in Richmond. Miss Elizabeth Harvell is spend ing this week at her home here. She will then return to Greens boro in time for her duties as dietition of the city schools. Miss Mabel Alston has return ed to Lillington after spending a two weeks vacation with her par ents. Miss Virginia Martin, of Rich mond, spent a few days with Mrs. J. G. Rawlings last week. W. L. Norman has returned from a vacation in New Jersey. Friends of “Shake” Clark will regret to learh that he is a pati ent in a hospital in Richmond. Mr and Mrs. H. L. Grant of Rocky Mount, visited friends here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Under wood and son were guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Johnson, Sunday. Mrs. Henry Blackstock and dau ghter, Joyce, have returned home from an extended visit at Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. L. B. Strong and family have left to make their home in Lepere, Mich. Edwin F. Powell, of U. S. Ma rines, spent a few days at his home here last week. Miss Edith May Alston, of Ral eigh, spent Wednesday at her home here. Miss Lelia Kate Harrell, of Rich Square, is the guest of Miss Bet tie Shaw. Miss Hazel Sechler is spending her vacation in the mountains of Western North Carolina. SHEARIN - JENKINS Miss Emma Virginia Jenkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Jenkins, of Pinetops, became the | bride of Pvt. John Daniel Shear in, Jr., of Fort Benning, Georgia, and Weldon, on August 19, in the chapel at Fort Benning, with Chaplain Hunt officiating. Pvt. Norman Wayne St. John, of Fort Benning. was best man. Miss Frances Sullivan, of Charlotte, was maid of honor. The bride wore an ice blue suit of gabardine. Her accessories were fuchsia and brown. She carried a white prayer book ■ showered with white roses. She wore a cor sage of purple orchids. Mrs. Shearin attended East Carolina Teachers College, the University of North Carolina and had completed her sophomore year at Salem College at the time of her marriage. The bridegroom is the son of J. D. Shearin and the late Mrs. Shearin, of Weldon. He was graduated from Fishburn Military academy and was attending the University of North Carolina prior to his entrance into the army. ROBERTS - BRINKLEY Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Dinner Meeting Tuesday Night The Business and Professional Women's Club will have its next dinner meeting in the Blue Room of the Rosemary Cafe next Tues day evening, beginning promptly at 7 o’clock. Continuing the series of the program “Are You A Part Time Citizen,” the guest speaker’s subject will be, “What Do You Know About Your State Govern ment?” With the coming election in view, this subject is timely. Cannon and Miss Marjorie Cannon entertained with bridge Thursday afternoon, hon oring their house guest, Mrs. Frank Muller, of New York. In the living room, dining room and reception hall where the tables were placed for playing, many bowls of mixed flowers were used. Attractive tallies were given the guests upon arrival to designate places for playing and partners. During the course of the after noon a refreshing fruit drink was served, and at conclusion of five progressions the scores were add ed and prizes awarded at each table. The winners were: Mrs. Scott Benton, Mrs. T. J. Alford, Mrs. Howard Pruden, Mrs. Carroll Wilson and Mrs. A1 Travis of Weldon. The honoree, whose birth day was Friday following the af ternoon of the party, was present ed an arm bouquet of lovely red roses. A very delightful salad plate was served at refreshment time. Nurses' Alumni Holds Meeting The Roanoke Rapids Nurses Alumni Association met Tuesday night, September 5, at the Nurses Home. Miss Myrtle Wooten, vice president, presided. Thirteen mem» bers were present. TOWN TALK Miss Mollie Balmer and Miss Eunice Pearce student nurses, are patients at the Roanoke Rap ids Hospital. Mrs. T. M. Bullock who is a patient in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital, is much improved. Mr. Frank Clarke, of Washing ton, D. C., father of Mrs. John W.
