County Winner Food Preparation
In the recent Food Preparation
contest held in Halifax County,
^p>ris Strickland of Weldon Senior
4-H Club, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. I. L. Strickland of Halifax,
Rt. 2, was announced the winner.
In 1943 Doris prepared 50 meals
with 150 dishes; 1944 she prepared
150 meals and 350 dishes—but in
1945, Doris prepared 200 meals
With 500 dishes. Her records were
entered into the State Food Prep
aration Contest ax winner from
Halifax County.

County Winner in Canning
? Marilyn Bullock, Roanoke Rapids
■Senior Club, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Bullock of Charlotte
5 Street, is the County 4-H Winner
1 in Canning. In 1943 Marilyn can
ned 500 quarts; in 1944, 700 quarts
; for family use and canned 200
quarts for her neighbors. In 1945
she canned 600 quarts for her
^>me and 265 quarts for other
people. She made a total of $40
in cash last year for helping
others with their canning. Mari
lyn’s records of her work for the
past three years were entered into
State Canning Contest last month.

County Winner Senior Dress Revue

the recent 4-H Dress Revue held
in Halifax County. Sarah made a
school dress of blue and white
checked gingham, with eyelet yoke
and pockets, bound with ruffles of
the gingham. She represented Hali
fax County in the State Dress Re
vue Contest held in Tarboro, Oct
ober 9. The dress contest for the
passed two yeaas in Halifax Coun

noke Rapids. This has been pos
sible through the cooperation of its
manager, Henry Loy. Sarah will
receive a $25 War Bond for first
place winner among the Senior 4-H
Club girls.

the Dress Revue. Mary Lee is

way. The wedding of Capt. Crew
and Miss Arnold was solemnized in
Quincy on Saturday, November 10.

Annual Concert
Friday, Dec. 14
The girl’s gee club of Roanoke
Rapids High School will present
its annual Christmas concert on
Friday afternoon, December 14,
in the High School auditorium.
After the concert there will be a
community “sing” of favorite
Christmas carols. The public is in

Rogers Speaks To
Local Rotarians
Eric W. Rogers, secretary of the
Roanoke River Flood Control
Committee, was guest speaker at
the Tuesday meeting of the Rotary
Ulub. Mr. Rogers spoke in the in
.erest of flood control on the Roa
noke River and gave much inter

ures on the subject.

Wilson Sisters at
Home From Duty
Lt. Virginia Wilson and Cpl. Eli
zabeth Wilson, daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. T. O. Wilson of this city,
are now home. Elizabeth arrived
Tuesday with a discharge after be
ing in service two and a half
years, two of which were spent
overseas. She was stationed in
Paris. Virginia arrived in the city
Friday *rter serving two of her
three-year service record overseas.
Virginia was a nurse, and is the
wearer ot four battle stars on her
ETO ribbon.
