GREETINGS—BOY SCOUTS: Greetings to the Boy Scouts on their 36th anniversary and con gratulations on what they have accomplished this year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and HAPPY SCOUT ING! TROOP 6 EXPLORES: Alter a supper meeting last Mon day evening, Troop 6 went ex ploring—not the by-ways and hedg es, but the assembly room in the Girl Scout Hut. The Scouts made a systematic recording of their findings in the troop cabinet and the window boxes. Under a mound of ashes they discovered a huge fireplace. After the excavation, theyl made a most attractive ar rangement for the mantle, using real wooden shoes as book ends to support the books chosen from the Scout Library. They mopped the walls and saw the golden brown finish of the logs. With a feeling of having really accomplished something, Troop 6 invites other troops to take up where they left off and find that "hut clean-up” has GLAMOUR and ADVENTURE. TROOP 10 ISSUES WARNING: Having company is such fun that Troop 10 wants to have spec ial guest attend every supper meeting but it’s only fair to warn aynone fishing for an inviation that you might have to sing for your supper. Last Wednesday evenling, Troop 10 dusted off its company man Tiers and invited Erlene Keeter and Joyce Hall of Troop 5 to feast upon “Bags of Gold" (cheese biscuits cooked in tomato soup). The Scouts remembered Erlene and Joyce sang to them last spring when cney spent the night at the Hut and showered them with so many request the guest felt as if they really had to sing for their supper. TROOPS SORT V-CLOTHING: After the Boy Scouts made a house to house collection of old clothes for the Victory Clothing Campaign, the Girl Scouts report ed for duty at the armory. Their job was to sort the clothes and shoes for packing; thus another link was added to the chain of International Friendship. * Compliments House Guest With Party Enfield—Mrs. W. C. Thorne en tertained at a bridge party Fri day evening at her home on South Main Street, honoring her daughter-in-law, M r s. W. G. Thome, of Winston-Salem, and her niece, Mrs. P. F. Thorne, who has recently moved to En field to make her home. Three tables were in play. High score prize was won by Mrs. A. C. Nichols and Second high by Miss Corrine Hofler. The hostess pre sented the honorees with a gift— a pair of gloves to Mrs. W. G. Thorne, and a hand painted tray to Mrs. P. F. Thorne. After the game, fruit cake, whipped cream and coffee was served by the hostess being as sisted in serving by Mrs. George Andrews to the following guests: Mrs. W. G. Thorne, Mrs. P. F. Thome, Jr., Miss Corinne Hofler, Mrs. W. R. Garnett, Jr., Miss Kiki Andleton, Miss Catherine Park er, Miss Mildred Andrews, Mrs. John Parker, Mrs. E. L. Pet way, Mrs. Wiley Bradley and Miss Elsie Kimball. ' “. • Eight Men Join The U. S. Navy Eight Halifax County young men have joined the United Stat es Navy, it was announced today by the Navy Recruiting Station in Roanoke Rapids. They are: W. E. Whitby, B. W. Brown, T. W. Massey, I. E. Gibson, C. E. Walker, all from this city; C L. Harris, Halifax; J. P. Wood, Thel ma, and E. L. House of En field. Dance Nets Sum For 'Dimes Drive' Enfield—Last Saturday Miss Ed na Hux turned over to the local chairman of the March of Dimes the sum of $13.35, representing the net receipts of a dance held at Darlington Club House the preceding Thursday night. Miss Hux organized the dance, and was aided by a band of musicians including Howard Keeter, Jack Warren and the Carlysle Broth ers. Christian Science Society Sunday School —-10:00 a. m. Abe Curry received his honorable discharge from the ser vice last Friday at Cherry Point. After spending a few days here Curry will leave for New York to be with his uncles, A. Visiting them also is an other daughter, Mrs. Dora Cox and baby from Aulander. But they have made room for the three additional members and ev erybody was happy. Mrs. Butler was the youngest of 546 English war brides who land ed here Monday on the Argentina. She was one of two whose hus bands live in North Carolina. Near the end of the war, she and the baby slept in an air raid shelt er in their back yard in knee deep water. Her father, James Old, is a marine engineer, and her three brothers, Jack, Harold and Fred are still in the servitt ot England, two in the Roy&l Navy and one in the army. She completed a commercial course and was bookkeeper and typist for a London firm which had been bombed out and has temporary offices in Teddington, Middlesex. Another here to greet them was Stanley M. Butler, a brother, who has just completed 3 years and six months service in the Pacific. Still in the service is anoth0 brother, Graham Butler. The other North Carolina bride to arrive on the Argentina is Mrs. .\rchie Kimball of Lemon Springs, N. C. She was the only mother on the boat with twins.
