Chapter Sponsors Lee Jackson Program Enfield—On Wednesday morn ing at 10:30 o’clock in the High School Auditorium here, a Lee Jackson Day program was spon sored by the Frank M. Parker Chapter, U. D. C. Due to inclem ent weather and the schools hav ing to be closed, the exercises had been postponed. In the absence of Mrs. S. C. Whitaker, program chairman, S. C. Whitaker was master of cere monies. “The Star Spangled Banner” was sung, after which' Alice Clarke, a member of the Enfield Blues, C. of C., gave a reading entitled “Lee-A Pattern.” It was announced that the local chapter has offered a $5.00 prize for the best essay on “The Con federate Navy” written by a High School pupil—the contest to close hi Commencement, 1946. Mr. Whitaker presented Rom Parker, an attorney of Enfield who made a very entertaining and I instructive talk on the lives of ] Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. In closing the exercises “We Are Renting Tonight On the Oid Camp Ground” was sung and T. O. Hickman, principal of the school, led in prayer. Clyde H. Garris Aboard 'Dauphin1 ON THE USS DAUPHIN — Clyde H. Garris, pharmacist’s mate, third class, USNR, Route 1, Roanoke Rapids, N. C., served on this assault troop transport dur ing a part of her war cruise in the Pacifio. The DAUPHIN has been engag ed in “Magic Carpet” duty — bringing veterans home from ov erseas bases. Previously, she par ticipated in the Okinawa opera tion, and visited Japan at Sasebo, Iiiro Wan and Yokohama. Freddy Parks Headed for Home ABOARD THE USS BLOUNT — Freddie Lewis Parks, seaman, first class, USN, Roanoke Rapids, N C. served aboard this Fleet is sue ship during the later stages of the Pacific war. The BLOUNT served as a Fleet issue ship for Allied forces in the Pacific during the war and then was converted to a general cargo ship following the Japanese sur render. The ship is returning to the United States for unloading and decommissioning. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Enfield—Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert J.
