North Carolina Industry Getting Back Production l__ North Carolina industry is get ting hack into higher peacetime prod®tion gradually but definitely in recent months, it is revealed m reports from 427 miscellaneous industrial firms and as announced by R. Mayne Albright, State di rector of the United States Em ployment Service. Total employment in these 427 firms increased from 130,688 as of January 15 to 133,282 as of March 15, a net \ increase of two percent. These 427 employers re port® that by May 15 they ex pect to need 4,356 additional work ers, which indicates an increase of more than three percent in this two-months period. The needed workers are in a variety of occupations in a large range of industries throughout the Slate, the more important of which are construction, textiles, manufarturing, structual clay products and iron and steel and the® products. The greatest decline in employ ment in recent months has been in the shipbuilding industry, a decline which is expected to con tinue during coming months. Wil mington, center of shipbuilding activities, is one of the few areas in which a decline in employment is shown during the past two months. The 11 reporting firms in the Wilmington area experienced a peel in e in employment of 1,773 workers, or 24 percent of the total employment,during the two-months period to March 15. “As larger industries get into fuller production, thus providing equipment, tools and supplies need by North Carolina industry, firms in this State will accelerate their hirings and their production” said Mr. Albright. “We look for ward to fuller employment great er production and more general prosperity in all areas of North Carolina during the coming months”.
