Jax Continue Winning Ways,
Trounce Washington, 18-1
By WYLIE WARREN
A fourteen hit attack by the
Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets
who recorded their fifth conferen
ce win on the ledger, and six-hit
pitching by five Bee-Hive hurlers
gave the locals a convincing l»-i
victory over the Washington Pam
Pack here last Thursday.
Howard Short, John Crtuchfield,
Marion Brown and southpaws Ted
Etheridge and Archie Moody kep
the Fam-Pack in check with a
half dozen safeties.
Coach Hoyle used twenty four
players in watching his boys re
main as master of ceremonies in
taking their fifth consecutive win
The Jacket understudies started
the contest and kept the situation
well in hand as they shut out the
Pam-Pack 6-0 in their four and
one-half innings of play. The Bee
Hive regulars then took over and
were reached for the Packers only
run while crossing the dish twelve
limes themselves.
The locals counted four times
in the initial frame on two hits
by Weiss and Stewart, a trio of
free passes and a hit batsman.
Before the regulars came in for
their stickwork, the sub starters
tallied two more runs ,one in the
second and third stanzas.
The subs replacement crew op
ened fire in the sixth frame, count
ing seven times on seven hits and
a pair of miscues. The Jax com
pleted their timberwork in the
seventh by tallying five markers
on a two base hit, a base on balls
and five errors by the Packers.
Charles Smith and Wyle Warren
driving in six run® between them
with doubles, and Linwood Butler,
Vance Stewart and A. R. Hardison
tatting in two runs each, topped
the winners in their fourteen-hit
assault against two Washington
tossers.
Roanoke Rapids plays Elizabeth
City s Yellow Jackets in the
coastal nines’ territory today.

To move and place our huge stock will require
about thirty days. We will sell in both the
new and old stores during the moving period.
Active selling in the new store will begin
about May 1.
Our new building has about three times as
much floor space as the old store. Eventually,
we hope to offer five times as many attractive

New steel fixtures we had ordered have been
postponed by suppliers for three to six months
--but we will have them when available.
Thousands of new and hard-to-get merchan
dise items will be added rapidly.
In the meantime—if it’s not at the old store,
try the new store. If it’s not at the new store,
toy the old store.
