(Political advJJ 'Big League* Ball Game Is Scheduled For May 1st The High School baseball field will be the scene for the ball game of the year Wednesday afternoon May 1, at 3 o’clock, when the roaring Lions of the Lions Club meet the walloping Braves of the Kiwanis Club. Coach Cranford floyle will lead his aggregation of Lion** including such standouts is Ray “Shadow” Stephenson, Zeb ‘Morganthan” Denny, Joe Talley, garl “Snowball I” Thompson, Ted ‘Snowball H” Speight, M. C. ‘Flash" Newsome, Graham Lynch ind other “big league” prospects igainst the Kiwanis All-Stars with ,uch talent as Ailmand “Whizzer” Vhite, Clyde “Smokey” Liske, Jenry "Slugger” Loy, Don Tiller, <Jed “Home Run” Manning, Geor ge ‘‘jBMMaggio” Taylor, Virgil * Speeay” McDowell and many ithers managed by George Wood md George Hayes. O. Griffin and Alfred Martin will be competing or batting honors, i W. E. “Doc” Murphrey, Senior all head the list of Umpires to I e gathered from the Rotary Club. All proceeds of the game will be turned over to the High School Athletic Fund. Admission will be 15c and 25 cents. Betting odds on the game range from 10-1 to 20-i that the Rotary Club will win and that liniment will be much in demand the next day. New Officers B&PW Club Are Elected At its regular business meeting the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Roanoke Rapids at the Woman’s Clubhouse, Tues day evening, April 23rd the fol lowing officers were electetd to serve the year Jul yl, 1946, to July 1, 1947: Mrs. Emma J. Edmondson, Pres ident; Mrs. John Matkins, 1st Vice-Pres.; Mrs. Lloyd Sandlin, 2nd. Vice-Pres.; M'ss Eileen Fish er, Recording Secretary; Mrs. Clyde D. Martin, Corresponding Secretary; Miss Lois Lyles, Treas urer. Among other business transacted plans were made for the third birthday party of the club which is to be held at the Clubhouse on Tuesday evening, May 14. Plans are being made to have a State 'Federation officer here as the principal speaker for the birthday party. The birthday party is one of the club’s outstanding enter tainment events of the year. A Child Welfare Budget was voted by the club, with Miss Iris Davis as chairman. Serving with the chairman will be Miss Viola Clover and Mrs. Arthur Schwartz. Several members of the Roanoke Rapids Club attended the club dis trict seven meeting in Ahoskie on Friday night, April 12. Miss Virginia Blount of the Roanoke Rapids Club is the present direct or of district seven to serve until July 1,. 1947. Six new members were voted into the club. Regular Meeting Rosemary PTA The Rosemary School Parent Teacher Association will have its regular monthly meeting at 3:30 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, May 1. A musical program has been plahncd by children of the fourth and fifth grades. This is the last P.-T. A. meeting of the season at Rosemary School and a large attendance is expected. All par ents are cordially invited.
