GENERAL REPORT: Number of office interviews_12 Number of home visits _4 Number of telephone calls about cases _„_5 „ During the month of May a young woman about twenty seven ffltwars old, accompanied by her mo *ner, came to the office of Asso ciated Charities and requested help for herself and three little chil dren, all under five years of age. She stated that her husband had deserted her and the children and that she had absolutely no means of support. A fourth child was expected in the near future. She had been sent to Associated Char ities by the case worker for Hali fax County Welfare Department yfedio knew the family and felt that only temporary assistance would be necesary. The woman did not know the husband’s whereabouts, but she had contacted the local police court here and sworn out a war rant lor his arrest, charging non support. Her mother, with whom she is now living, was not able to take care of them since she her self receives Old Age Assistance from Halifax County| The woman was born and raised in Roanoke Rapids. The case worker for Asso ciated Charities verified these facts before any assistance was given. A weekly food order has been given this family for about six weeks. Medicine for the woman, as prescribed by her physician, has also been provided by Associated Charities. The fourth child was born in June. Since no trace of the husband has been found, and assistance by Associated Charities is o»lj temporary, application for perma nent aid from Halifax County has been made. This woman will re ceive, in the very near future regular financial assistance knowr as ADC, or Aid for Dependeni Children. Meanwhile Associated Charities is providing the familj with necessary food,, including fresh milk for the children.
