'THE GREEN YEARS'COMING TO PEOPLES FOR FOUR DAYS Starting Sunday at the Peoples Theatre and running for three days will be “The Green Years” with Charles Coburn and Tom Drake as stars. Dramatic enter tainment of a rare order has been fashioned from the tale of an or phaned Irish child brought up by relatives in Scotland. The young ster has to fight prejudice against his Catholic faith and the taunts of his schoolmates at the very start of his new life in a Scot tish household. When he attains the working age he suffers terrible frustration in his ambition to con tinue his education and realize his natural scientific gifts. His strug gle to rise above his station in life cerates drama that tears the emo tions. So convincingly and so sympa thetically is the story told that the audience can’t help sighing with relief and experiencing a pro found sense of joy when the lad, after a series of discouragements that would have licked one pos sessed of less character, gets his opportunity to become a doctor. Starting Wednesday Vivian Blaine and Harry Janies in 4Tf I’m Lucky” will be at the Peo ples Theatre for four days. Big time operator Phil Silvers causes a troupe of youngsters to quit their jobs. He has a show lined up. They meet him. There’s no show. Strictly from hunger they attend a political rally where the inducement is free food and drink. The rally is a flop as far as the candidate is concerned. So Silv ers whip up a show on the spot. The crowd likes it, the speaker gets attention, the troupe is work ing. Perry Como wanders in with a song. It’s a good one. Miss Blaine likes it, and Como too. Como is m the show. They barnstorm the state and it seems Edgar Buch anan is about to be elected. But he has a change of heart. He de cides to play straight and throw over machine politicians who back him. They frame him with his past performances. He retires. In the politician’s book Como looks good. He is induced to run. He comes clean when the real nature of the campaign is thrown at him and quits, not, however, before he exposes the crooks.
