Job Opening
(Continued from page 1—Sect A)
plus of workers now unemployed.
The total labor demand in the area
is estimated to be about 32 per
cent.
Job openings on file do not cover
all the demand in the area, and
it is estimated that the total la
bor needs will equal or exceed
the number of workers available
for employment, but for various
reasons the workers available do
not match the job openings. The
majority of the females available
for employment do not meet the
current requirements of industry
such as age, skill, experience, and
physical ability. Approximately 31
per cent of the unemployed work
eres are not available for, or seek
ing work. Many of the veterans
have entered school and many of
them are seeking “on the job
training” oppoortunities, which
are scarce. Other problems are
workers' qualifications not mat
ching jobs, physioal disabilities,
housing and transportation.
There were 284 persons who fil
ed claims for unemployment com
pensation during the month of
August, but this is expected to
show a sharp decrease in Septem
ber since the veterans entering
school will discontinue their
claims. There is a marked increase
in the number of persons inquir
ing for information of jobs avail
able in other sections, and many
persons may except work in other
areas if suitable work cannot be
found locally.
