Value Doubled
Tax Increase Less
Than 20 Per Cent
Washington*— While the value
of farm real estate in North
Carolina has considerably more
than doubled in the past eight
years, the tax on such land in
creased less than 20 per cent,
reports released this week by the
cate.
One report shows that the val
ue of farm real estate has shot
up 139 per cent since the years
1935 to 1939. Another report shows
that during this same period the
taxes per acre of land increased
from about 34.5 cents to - about
41 cents per acre. >
Farm real estate taxes were
still 18 cents less per acre in
1946 than in 1930. In 1930 the
tax rate per acre was 59 cents,
and in 1946 was only 41 cents
per acre.
After the tax rate dropped 27
rents per acre during the 1930
to 15*35 period, the tax rate has
•.limbed slowly since that time.
