tentative Allocation
)f $105,515.89 Under
■'ittman-Robertson Act
Washington — The Fisli and l
Vildlife Service said today a ten
ative allocation of $105,515 89 has
>een made to North Carolina for
bis year under the Pittman- •
Robertson act.
The act provides that the re
ceipts from the excise tax on
irms and ammunition shall be re
lumed to the states to We used,
with matching funds, to acquire
land for public hunting or game
tefuges, restocking and game and
wildlife research.
North Carolina will be expect
ed to put up 25 per cent of the
total of the federal funds. Tne
total indicated by the figures may
be increased if national receipts
from the tax run over the $9,000,
000 estimated total.
Last year only $2,000,000 was
distributed to states under the
Robertson-Pittman act, but in his
final report as chairman of the
Select House Committee on con
servation of Wildlife, Senator
Willis Robertson iD„ Va.» rec
ommended that $5,000,000 be dis
tributed this year. The appro
priation bill did not contain a
definite figure but provided that
all ot this year's receipts, which
nad been estimated at $5,000,000
should be available for distribu
tion Increased interest in hunt
mg. along with higher prees be
.ng charged for guns and am
munition. had boosted th* re
ceipts to nearly twice the ex
pected total.
Senator Robertson pointed . it
that none of the Pittni.u.-R »b-1
t-rtson funds may be used for I
development of fishing bu: he
said that a bill to provide funds
for this purpose, introduced by
Rep. Dingel tD., Mich.) was fa
vorably reported to the House
recently. The bill failed of pas
sage under the one-objection rule
in the closing days of the ses
sion but remains on the calendar
and can be brought up again
next year.
