PTA MEETS
•Enfield—Enfield’s P. T. A. met
Tuesday of last week, for the
first time this fall, with a
large attendance. Many ideas
were exchanged, looking toward
making the present session one
of great importance to the child
ren, and the Principal urges the
cooperation of parents to help
keep the school at its best.
Mrs. William Neville, program
chairman, gave each member a
“year book”, which is “building
for tomorrow”.
R. Hunter Pope told the meet
ing of a visit that he and Supt.
Overman made to Attorney Gen
eral McMullen in Raleigh, in
regard to the new school build
ing for Enfield. With the high
bids for the work it appears
that it may be necessary tc
build the new school building
in sections.
In the meeting it was voted
that a parent attend school ont
day each week, attending classes
visiting play grounds, taking
lunch and looking over the
school building, and taking in
terest in the life of the school
It was also voted to establish a
fund for the Grade-mothers to
be used in defraying the ex
penses of treats for the various
classes.
Mrs. Nannie Smith’s 4th grade
won the Dixie cups given to
the grade having the most par
ents present.
After adjournment a social
hour was held in the lunch
room. This was enjoyed, since
it gave the P. T. A. members
a chance to meet the new tea
chers and parents. Hostesses
were Mrs. C. D. Moss and Mrs.
Lucius Whitley.
CEMETERY BEAUTIFICATION
Enfield’s cemetarv is being
beautified under the guidance ol
Mrs. Ivey Watson and Paul Rein
dolph. For several weeks a fore
of 5 men. and a truck, have
been very busy cutting gras
over the entire cemetery. Citi
zens are being asked to remov
the curbing around the inciivi
dual lots so the power mowe
can be used to a better ad
vantage without having to be
lifted over the curbing. Three
inches of crushed stone will be
put on the main driveways. Con
tributions are wanted from the
public to defray the expense of
the stone and having it movtiu.
The trees have been pruned, as
v eil as the shrubs. On the south
side of the cemetery there are
concrete steps which have been
built leaving a side road and
up to the embankment to the
grounds.
