The 50-Year tradition of the Democratic Party of North Caro lina should NOT be adjusted for the political ambitions of any man. Kerr Scott lives in the West and he cannot rightfully claim to be an Eastern candidate. Alamance County has always beer, considered a part of the political west. ι Thomas M. Holt was elected lieutenant-governor from Ala mance County as a Westerner. The last three lieutenant-govern ors from the West have come from counties farther East than Scott's Alamance - Elmer Long of Durham, Sandy Graham of Orange and Reg Harris of Person. ' In 1944, Mr. Scott, now seeking the governorship as a candi date for the East, sought support to run for the U. S. Senate against Bob Reynolds of Buncombe, as a candidate from the West. With Mr. Scott it is apparent East i.s West and West is East as the political whim of the mo Tient dictates. Don't break this 50-year tradition! Vote for Charles M. John son, high man in the first primary, and the only candidate from the East in the race for Governor. (Political advertisement) Hamlet. Linwood Topping, and Eddie Williford, spent the week end at Virginia Beach. Bobby Dickens of Black Mountain. N. C.. is spending the summer with Mr. and Mrs. Clif- i ton Crawley. Mrs. Will Robertson is a pat- | lent in Roanoke Rapids hospital. Nurses are greatly needed in North Carolina. The ratio in in dividual counties is as low as 1 to 30.000. with a state average of 1 to 9.800, half the accepted minimum standard. North Carolina ranked forty first among the states in aid to dependent children, in Novem ber. 1947. The state average payment per child was only j half of the national average.
