I 5': —■ Mabel Williams Married To Joseph Ramsey, Jr. In a quiet but impressive cere mony, Miss Mabel Irene Will iams became the bride o f Joseph Henry Ramsay, Jr. The t wedding took place Saturday, * August 14, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Rarsonage with the Reverend Gordon Price reading the ceremony. The bride and bridegroo m were unattended. The bride wore an aqua blue silk dress fashioned with a sweethear t neckline and a circular skir t with seeded pearl pockets. Her accessories were white and she wore a white orchid corsage . Her only ornament was a string of pearls. Mrs. Ramsay received her ed ucation at Roanoke Rapids High School. She holds a position with Halifax Paper Company. Mr. Ramsay was educated at Seaboard High School. Sin c e , his discharge from the Navy, he has been connected with McGee Electrical Company. Upon their return from a wed ding trip North, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay will make their home in Seaboard. Cake Cutting Mrs. Gurney Brown, Miss Margaret Williams and Miss | Helen Vaughan entertained Fri £ day evening with a cake cutting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A1 f Drew in Chaloner Park. Gladioli and asters were used \ throughout the home. Ivey and ; red roses were attractively ar ranged around the punch bowl and the bridal cake. Miss Helen Vaughan, Miss f- Margaret Williams and Mrs c Gurney Brown were in charge of the serving. Miss Louise Tay lor presided at the punch bowl. Members of the family and close friends attended. Mrs. Katherine Butter of Roa noke Rapids is spending the week in New York City as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Irwiog Klug of Norfolk, Va. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Barnes and sons, Leo and R. W., and Ray ford Barnes of Rich Square were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Slade. iwm ihh Mrs. Joseph Henry Ramsay, Jr. Hawaiian Girl Is Visitor In Aurelian Springs Aurelian Springs—Miss Kimi ko Kaneskiro of Hawaii is spending several days with Miss Maude Elizabeth Wilson. Miss Kaneskiro is in this country studying to become a missionary to serve her own people in Japan. She has completed her school ing at Wheaton College, Chi cago, and will enter ser sec ond year of study at the Louis ville Training School this fall. Throughout the summer she has attended camps with all ages of the W. M. U. Thursday night, August 12th, Miss Kaneshiro conducted a study course for the G. A.'s and R. A.’s of Bear Swamp Bap tist Church. Recent Bride Is Honored By Mrs. Copeland Woodland—Mrs. L. C. Cope land, Jr., recent bride, was hon ored at a reception given by Mrs. L. C. Copeland, Sr., and Mrs. George Threewitts of Lit tleton in the home of Mrs. Cope land. Tuesday afternoon. Arrangements U mixed sum mer flowers and tall white can dles in silver candlesticks were used effectively throughout the house. Mesdames I. T. Blanchard and W. J. Griffin greeted guests on the porch and introduced them to Mrs. D. H. Brown, who di rected them to the punch bowl where Mrs. R. E. Daniel of Lit tleton and Mrs. T. W. Cooley ! presided. Mrs. J. W. Dickie introduced j guests to the receiving line com-1 posed of the hostesses, the hcn oree, Mrs. W. C. Lassiter of Fotecasi. mother of the honoree and Mrs. J. William Copeland of Murfreesboro. Mrs. Copeland di rected them to the dining room. Misses Sarah Elizabeth Whis nant. Frances Peele and Jane Dickie served ice cream decor ated with roses and lilies of the valley, individual cakes, nuts and mints from the dining table which was centered with an ar rangement of white asters and carnations in a silver bowl, flanked by tall white candles in silver candelabra. A similar ar rangement of asters, snapdrag ons and candles were used on the buffet. Guests were directed to the bride’s book by Mrs. S. R. Motz no and Mrs. J. P. Brown and registered with Mrs. C. G. Park er and Mrs. W. H. S. Burgwyn. Goodbyes were said to Mrs. W. D. Holloman and Mrs. R. C. Benthall. About 125 guests from Greens boro. Littleton. Aulander and neighboring towns called during the afternoon. _ Alice Pendleton Becomes Bride Of C. S. Bazemore Scotland Neck—The following announcement has been received in Scotland Neck. Mr. and Mrs. George Edmund Pendleton announce the mar riage of their daughter, Alice Mae, to Mr. Cecil S. Bazemore, son of Thomas B. Bazemore of Lewiston, on Sunday, August 8th. Mr. and Mrs. Bazemore will be at home in Scotland Neck after August 15. Miss Hockaday Will Marry Roger Adams Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Hockaday announce the approaching mar riage of their daughter, Justine, to Roger Adams. The wedding will take place Saturday, August 21, at 4:30 o’ clock in the afternoon in the Rosemary Baptist Church. All friends of the family are invited to attend. Card Club Feted By Mrs. League Warrenton—Mrs. J. C. League entertained her card club on Thursday evening with Mrs. Ed ward Busch of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Grady Moseley as extra guests. Mrs. R. D. Milles won top score prize and Mrs. Moseley 1-eceived the Bingo gift, bridge and bingo, a sweet course was served by the hostess. Those present were: Mes dames W. A. Miles, J. H. Daniel R. H. Bright C. C. Britton and L. H. Thompson. Mrs. Myrick Hostess To Fidelis Class Of First Baptist The Fidelis Class of the First Baptist Church held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. W. R. My rick. Mrs. A. A. Duncan, president, presided and led the devotional which included the reading of verses two through 28 of the seventh chapter of Jeremiah. After business was discussed, a social hour was enjoyed by all, during which time Mrs. D. C. Brown was honored with a sur prise handkerchief shower. The wedding took place Friday, August 6th. Devine-Whitmore Wedding To Be Held August 29 Warrenton—Mr. and Mrs. Roy Devine of NorJina announce the approaching marriage of their daughter. Peggy Joyner, to Mr. Kenneth Jackson Whitmore, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Whitmore of Warren County. The wedding will take place in the Norlina Baptist Church on August 29 at 5:30 o’clock. Oakes Speaks To Rosemary Baptist Womans’ Society A. W. Oakes. Jr., prominent Weldon attorney, was guest speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Mission ary Society of the Rosemary Baptist Church Monday evening. August 9th. Preceding Mr. Cakes on the program, Mrs. J. O. Matthews, who led the devotional, using for her topic “No other name" and basing her remarks on scrip ture from Acts 4:12 and Heb rews 4:12-16. Billy Norwood presented Mr Oakes to the group. He led a very interesting and informative discussion on Latin America. Following a short business session, a social hour was enjoy ed at which time lemonade and cookies were served by the Lot tie Moon Circle. 'i Fashion Show Is Tonight In Warrenton Warrenton— The fall fashion show will be presented tonight at the John Graham High School here under the auspices of the Warrenton Woman's Club. The fashion show will feature clothes of the latest styles of fered by local merchants. The clothes will be displayed by Warren County women. All types of new fall clothes will be shown. Local shops will also provide the necessary clothes for men’s wear from Sunday dress to what the well-dressed farmer will wear. Woodland Methodist Circle Meets At Home Of Mrs. Brittle Woodland—Mrs. James Brittle and Mrs. Jake Lassiter were hos tesses to the Woodland Circle of the Methodist Church in the home of Mrs. brittle Tuesda y night. In the absence of the leader Mrs. W. S. H. Burgwyn, Mrs. Stanley White presided. Mrs . Aubrey Griffin, program chair man. led the devotional. Mrs. Charles Griffin gave a very interesting talk on “Histor | ical Books of the Bible” empha sizing Joshua Judges and Sam uel one and two. Mrs. Henry Leggett read a poem ‘‘Vacation Time.” Discussion of various projects sponsored for the church bene fit was held. Miss Martha Lassiter, serving in the absence cf Mrs. Jake Las siter who was ill, assisted Mrs. Brittle with refreshments at the close of the meeting. Bertie Brantley Is Honored At Birthday Party Miss Bertie Mar Brantley was honored with a birthday party August 13th at her home on Jefferson Street given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F.. Brantley. Many games were played and enjoyed by everyone. Bertia Mae received many lovely gifts and she thanked each guest. Town Talk Miss Jane White has returned from Cherry Stone Ranch. Chatham. Va., where she spent her vacation. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Grant of Emporia spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ray. Mrs. M. H. Hedgepeth and Mrs. Frank Neal spent Monday in Richmond. Miss Mary Louise Ray spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ray. Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Cox left Sunday to visit in Portsmouth with Mrs. T. E. Cox. Mrs. Lucy Hudson and Mrs. Frances Taylor spent Friday in Richmond. Pfc. Gene Hudson is spending a 10-day furlough with his moth er, Mrs. Lucy Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. George Cook have returned to their home af ter visiting in Dayton, Ohio and Virginia Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Shell left Saturday for a two weeks vaca tion at Virginia Beach. — Mrs. Curtis Shell spent last week at Virginia Beach. Mr. and Ms. Arthur L. Twis dale have returned to Roanoke Rapids after a week visit in New mon, Ga. with Mrs. A. F. Twis dale and son, Norman. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Harris spent the week end in Conway visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Har ris. Miss Jeanie Nicholson, Mr. and Mrs. George Clary, Miss Margaret Paula Nicholson and | Mrs. W. I. Nicholson spent Sun day in Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brewer at tended a family reunion Sunday which was held in Justice, N. C. Mrs. Clearon Shearin. Mrs. Tom Manuel and Mrs. G. H. Jackson have returned from a two weeks vacation at the fol lowing points: Asheville. Sky line Drive, Luray, and Wilming ton. Mrs. Frank Kendrick leaves today to visit her mother in Belhaven. Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Wheeler spent the week end in Win chester, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Finch are spending their vacation at Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. McRae Fai son have returned from a ten days visit to Chincoteague Is land, Va. David Camp. Jr., spent the week end in Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Wilson Miss Betty Wilson, Buck and Tommy Wilson are spending the week at Kill Devil Hills. A1 Gilliam, who has acted as Junior Counselor at a boy’s camp in Lewisburg, W. Va., for the past seven weeks returned home Friday night. He was ac companied by his Uncle James Parson of Lewisburg. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Bullock, William Bennett Bullock, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Irby and Claud ius Irby spent the week end in Manteo. Jimmy Coker and Thurman Bullock, Jr., are visiting Jimmy’s grandmother at Virginia Beacn this week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hawley. Mr. and Mrs. Heath Lee spent the week end of August 7th m Williamsburg and attended a performance of “Common Glory.” Mr. and Mrs. Frank Joyner and baby drove to Richmond Saturday where they took a plane to -Boston, Mass., to visit Mrs. Joyner’s relatives for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Wheeler and Mrs. T. M. Jenkins return ed from a week's vacation at Ridgecrest last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Taylor vis ited Pawleys Island and S. C.. for two weeks. Those attending the wedding of Miss Eloise Tilley, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Lester Til ley of Morehead City, formerly of Roanoke Rapids to Roy C Sampley, Jr., of Stuart, Fla., last Thursday evening included the following: Mrs. Edwin Akers who acted as Mistress of Cere mony, Mrs. Agatha Miller who sang. Miss Moore Attends State BPW Meeting Women from all parts of the State met in Chapel Hill Satur day and Sunday; August 14th and 15th for the Summer Lead ership Conference of North Carolina Federation Business and Professional Woman’s Club. Mrs. Kay Shipman, State President presided. The theme of the conference was a quota tion from Dale Carnegie "Let us do, superbly, today’s work to day.” A round table discussion was led bv state officers ir which all participated. The local club was represented by their president, Miss Josie Modre. BPW Club Holds Picnic Meeting The Business and Professional Woman's Club held a delightful meeting on Thursday evening of last week at the home of Mrs. Jake spires on me weiaon ivoau. A picnic supper was enjoyed by around twenty-five members and their guests: after which the hostess served ice cold water i melon.
