8 may 2005 ncssm I the stentorian Athlete Spotlight: Terrell Pridgen Kevin Chen A little hesitation, dribble, fake right, and lightning quick crossover to the left combined with an explosive first step is all it takes for Terrell Pridgen to blow by a defender. Any NCSSM student who regularly plays pickup basketball will tell you to avoid playing Terrell one-on-one unless you enjoy having your ankles broken. Not simply a street ball player, Terrell has played a key role on the men’s basketball team. On and off the court, he has provided energy and enthusiasm during high and low moments of the season. Currently, Terrell is preparing diligently for track season, more specifically the 400 m and 4 X 400 relay. If Terrell can carry over his athletic talents from basketball to track, then he should find success without a problem. Don't hold back. Regret is one of the strongest pains. Anything left unsaid, say it. Forget what is holding you back now. Two weeks from now, you may lose your chance forever." -anonymous Dear Juniors, In no time at all you all will be able to call yourselves seniors! How will life at NCSSM be as a senior? My task is to give you some advice on life as a senior here at NCSSM. One of the first things that I consider to be important, is to remember that this will be your last year of high school, the last time that you will see some of your closest friends. Make sure that you get all your work done and that you do well in school, but also make time for a social life. Don’t stay closed up in your room on weekends, do your work, but at the same time have some fun with your friends. At the beginning of the year things will seem slow, but at the same time, do not burden yourself with too many activities or extracurric ular clubs. Do what you like to do and what you believe in whether it be the president of Seeds of Change or being the president of the Easily Amused Club. Don’t worry about having a long list of activities for college applica tions. Life will also sometimes seem hard and overbearing being a senior because you’re trying to manage the stress of work, college plans, and fnends, but don’t worry - try to make your senior a year to remember. Make sure you are able to meet your juniors and become friends with them. Some of the best relationships at our school are formed at the begin ning of the year and between juniors and seniors. Your jun iors will probably need'you to show them the ropes, just like I needed my seniors to show me. Don’t be hesitant to get to know your juniors; after all, they are really happy to be here just like we all are. One of my seniors once told me to make sure you make the most out of senior year, because it will go by quickly. My senior year has flown by, and although I am ready to graduate. I’m not so sure about leaving so many fnends behind. My last word of advice to you rising seniors, is that you cherish your senior year. Go sit outside and do homework with your fnends, go jump in the leaves in the fall, don’t be afraid to meet new people, and finally, have a good time! “Yolanda Fair Senior Superlatives Best Smile Ervin Griffin and Jen Gunderson Best Dressed Zach Long and Maleah Pusz Best Sense of Humor Phil Carey and Julianna Thomas Dynamic Duo Gabby Tucci and George Davis Most Spirited Isaac Owolabi and Katie Shearin Most Likely to Succeed Ryan Neely and Lucie Guo Most Likely to Run for President Chris McLain and Heather Mohorn Most Athletic Lance Harden and Kara Anasti Most Artistic Dan Applegate and Margaret Wu Best All Around Erika Gutierrez, Tyler Huffman, and Wiley Smith Most Likely to Become an SLI Bobby Shimer and Nancy Poplin Best Personality Alex Ahearn and Yolanda Fair
