THE L.EXHIPEP
BOY’S TENNIS SCHEDUEEL
At the present time the boy’s ten
nis team is about to start one of the
hardest schedules yet attempted by
the orange and blue. The season
opens on April 2, with the strong
Oak riidge Institute, who were the
High, the state champions among the
state champs in the prep school
circles, and closes with Greensboro
high schools for 1924 in both singles
and doubles. Besides playing two
matches with each of the above teams,
the boys will play. Wake Forest,
Freshman, two matches with Salis
bury and take part in the state
tournament, and also the Western.
There is plenty of room for more
new candidates, and in fact we must
have more. So if you do not go out
for track, please get out your racket
and start getting in shape as early
as possible.

COME ON, SPEAKERS, SPELEEBS,
AND WRITERS.
So far time and efforts have been
devoted only to the athletl9 side of
the track meet. There is, however,
a literary side as well, and it deserves
part of our attention. The events
are: Declamation and Recitation,
Spelling, Reading, Writing, English,
Grammar, and Cross-Word Puzzle.
Last year, Lexington came second in
literary score, and was defeated by
only a few points, winning first and
second places in spelling, first in reci
tation and essay, and third place in
English Grammar. This year we are
hoping and expecting to win the liter
ary cup. There is much ability in
the school this year along the lines
we attempted before, and we are
sure that no more devout cross-word
puzzle fiends can be found anywhere
than are in L. H. S. So decide W'hat
you want to do, and lets win the cup
on April 9, as well as the athletic
cup on April 17.

TENNESSEE’S NEW LAW.
\Governor Paey of Tennessee re
cently signed a bill passed by the
general assembly abolishing the
teaching of evolution in schools and
colleges of that state. Only the doc
trine of the Bible shall be taught, it
says. Such a step has long heen dis
cussed in many places, and we are
glad to learn that one of our neigh
bor states has had the “spunk” to
pass a law to that effect.
