I'' '’'- 0 A The Lexhipep Published by the Students of Lexington High School VOL. IV. LEXINGTON, N. C., OCTOBER 26, 1925 No. 1 LEXINGTON IS WINNER OVER SALISBURY HIGHS Last Friday, Lexington Highs defeated Salisbury Highs on the gridiron here by the score of 14 to 6. This season’s victory for Lex ington is the first one in two years and Lexington High has right to be proud of the team, which ac complished this. The Orange and Blue outplayed Salisbury in every department of the game, except in the forward passing. Salisbury was able to make but one first down through Lexington’s line, while Lexington’s “Four Horse men” Hutchins, Vestal, Chitty and Eanes ran wild through the Salis bury line and around the ends. Lexington’s line played a steady game throughout and, led by Capt. Nat Hunt, held like a stone wall against the onslaught of the op posing eleven. There were few substitutions by eiet.her side. The game was cleanly played thru- out and very few penalties were imposed on either side. There was a fairly large crowd at the game and the girls of our High School, by themselves, kept the cheering' going. Both Score Early Lexington kicked off to begin the game and Salisbury was forced to return the kick. Vestal, Fanes and Hutchins made first down. Eanes got four more and Vestal 10 for another first down with goal to go. Chitty and Eanes car ried the' ball almost to the last line and Hutchins slipped over on a quarterback sneak. Eanes kicked placement for point. Hutchins returned the kick-off 15 yards and Salisbury held, Eanes kicking. Salisbury found the local line too hard and kicked to Lexington’s 20-yard line. Principal Stokes stressed the importance of selecting good offijeers. He Insisted that we should elect someone for president who was not only a leader, but a worker as well; one who could meet every task with a big heart and master it. The vice-president, secretary and theasurer likewise should ■have a big heart and a willing mind. The officers elected are as follows: President, Joe MlofH,tt, Jr.; vice president, Foil Essick; secretary, I’uth M'loCarn; treasurer, Pauline Sink. ■With this capable set of officers the Senior class looks forward to great achievements this year. Since this is our last year in Lex ington High School we have to make a record far greater than former classes have made. We ' should make a record which will be an inspiration to the rising Senior class; one to which we can look back years hence with pride. We can do it! We have the ma terial to work with. Our Seniors, both boys and girls, are as good and as capable of doing' great things as the members of any for mer class have been. 'Wte have made a splendid record during the past three years. Will we keep it up ? Will we meet the need of the hour? I answer, yes! We should attempt to make a far greater record this year than we have made in former years.
