r V ' ,0 ^ Register and Vote in the Student Council Elutions Friday!^^ The Lexhipep Published by the Students of Lexington High School Friday, the 27, the Student Council election will be held. All petitions were in Monday and the registering will take place today, Wednesday and Thursday. At present the following have an nounced their candidacy: President: Pauline Cope and Foyell Smith. Vice president: Harold Harrison. Secretary: kam Cecil and Margaret Spruill. \ Treasurer: Raymond Conrad and Ralph Morris. a Junior High Representative^ Bobby Hill. Senior High Representative: Joe Holman and Nancy Raper. This week every citizen of Lexington High School will take a part in the future of the school government. Our hope is to have every true school citi zen vote as his conscience directs. ATHLETES PRESENTED SWEATERS and LETTERS For the first time in the history of Lexington High School a National Honor Society has been organized with Mr. S. M. Justice and Miss Ber nice Apple as sponsors. They are the only ones of the faculty who have ever been members of a National Hon or Society. The charter members are Margaret Hooper, Evelyn Greer, Harry Philpott, James Hartzog, Elieze Johnson, Burke Craver, Virginia Fritts, William Wil son, Pauline Cope, Elizabeth Revelle, Foyell Smith and Olin Easter. In chapel on March 13 they were form ally inducted into the society. These members were chosen by the faculty from the upper 30% of the senior and junior classes in scholarship, the elec tion being based on service, leadership and character. On March 28 the first regular busi ness meeting was held, and the follow ing officers were elected: James Hart zog, president; Foyell Smith, vice president: Pauline Cope, secretary; and Elizabeth Revelle, treasurer. The society plans special work of assisting (Continued on Page Four) The presentation of sweaters to the boys and letters to the girls of the basketball team was made possible through the wonderful cooperation and school spirit of the student body of Lexington High. The boys to get sweaters were Burke Craver, O. A. Petrea, Bill Bailey, Smith Young and Glover Rogers. The girls to get letters were Mildred Ann Critcher, Virginia Bower, Nancy Raper, “Lib" Revelle, Stamey Leonard, Carrie Lee Bean and May Vestal Leonard. This gala occasion was made even more enjoyable by two fine speeches delivered by our coaches. Young and Dorsett. BANQUET MAY 4 Mr. McGregor. quotes the now fast approaching Junior-Senior banquet as “the biggest blow-out the school has ever known.” And it’s really true, we hope. Plans are now being put into action. The decoration committee headed by Foyell Smith, the program committee headed by Mary Martin, and the invitation committee headed by Sarah Green are working for the one big object—a real banquet. In vitations have been sent out, anti a record crowd is expected. The Junior class members are joining hands to guarantee to all seniors a real “blow out” of a time. Plans are being formulated for the the Lexington senior high school com mencement exercises which will be held this year May 18-24, with Dr. Julian Miller, editorial writer for the Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, to de liver the address to the graduating class. On Friday evening. May 18, the dramatic club will give its second per formance of the year in the nature of a three act comedy, “Tea Topper Tav ern.” The baccalaureate sermon will be delivered Sunday evening. May 20, in the high school auditorium. Dr. How ard E. Rondthaler, president of Salem College, will be the speaker. The traditional class exercises will be held out doors Wednesday after noon, May 23, at five o’clock. On Thursday evening. May 24, Dr. Julian Miller will speak to the grad uating class. The class in indeed for tunate in securing such a noted and brilliant speaker for this occasion. The senior class will wear caps and gowns at the sermon and graduation exercises. Harry Philpott is president of the class; Haywat Hinkle, vice pres ident; Margaret Hooper, secretary, and Ruth Hutchins, treasurer. Misses Mar garet Miller and Hazel Griffin are class sponsors, Greta Miley, mascot. CHAPEL PROGRAMS SHOW VARIETY . Ranking foremost among the chapel programs of last month were those given by the home rooms of Misses Lindsay, Griffin, Springs, Dorsett, and Messrs. Humphrey, Walser and Mc Gregor. Miss Lindsay’s home room of girls gave a splendid pantomine of Poca hontas saving Capt. John Smith’s life. (Continued on Page 2)
