September 26, 1947 THE LEXHIPEP Page 5 STRicTlY iCoMFiilEtlliAL We. I. U. We’re sitting here in skirts and sweaters praying for cold weather, not only for winter clothes but to cool off some of these hot romances. (It’s better for spooning, too.) * * * * Wonder what “Tenny” will do when winter comes around? Will she wear her sweaters strapless? « * * * Have you seen that red head from Greensboro?? Her name from what we’ve been able to gather is Barbara. We can’t tear her away from Bill Palmer long enough to find out anymore!! * * ♦ * You remember A. J. Hunt, we know; well, she may be gone but her sister stepped in (Betty Claire) and with her you’ll find Jackie Shaw. * * * * Have you noticed how “Sunny” Barbara Ritchie is?? Well, that good- looking Timberlake boy with the little yellow car is the reason!!! * * * * High School just wouldn’t be high school without a triangle of loves. Namely Peggy, Pete and Cook. (Frankly, we think “Petunia” still blooms with Cook.) * « « » Honestly, “Bensy” just keeps us in circles. We think he’s keeping “Goo- Ball” in one, too. You never can tell about him, though; this might be serious!!! * m i * We hope that the rest of these dignified Seniors will forgive us for not mentioning them before now, but we just plumb forgot!! Raker and Mary Anne are still hitting it off, and Martha is still trying to keep up with the “Bull” (you stick in there); Zacky and Jane (pardon the Jr.) still have that love-sick look!! » « « ♦ It surely won’t seem right without the last year’s Seniors; next time you happen to pass Jane Gordon or Mike just notice those lost looks on their pretty little faces!! * * * * Now for the Koontz family! Naturally “Tubba” is still on Joanne’s doorstep, but recently he has had difficulties reaching the doorstep!!! Now Carolyn and the Handsome Carter (A1 Jolson the 2nd) are occupying the swing!! * • * * Let us tell you the long and short of it!! None other than Hal Crotts and Barbara DeLapp! What a pair!!! 41 * ♦ « Some more of those Seniors are Martha Cox and Isabel Essick! Both are “A” students and still have time for romancing with Harold Soloman and Arvel Frazier respectively!! « 4t * * We don’t have to tell who Jimmy is; everyone is well acquainted with the new chief cheerleader who was responsible for that super pep rally!!! His love life happens still to be Martha Hooper!!! 4c « « * Speaking of Hoopers, we forgot to mention how lost Bill is without Sue!! * * * * Another one of these summer romances is Kitty Philpott and Johnny Bivlng. The object that seems to weigh her down is his class ring!!! >(«** The rumor about Ruth’s engagement wasn’t true, but we think it will be when she graduates! You know the lucky “feller’’ of course! Leon Hedrick!! Who else?!!? » » ♦ » Twice a week Lopp!! We mean by that, Mary Nell Lopp has a date every Tuesday and Sunday with a cute boy from ^T-ville!!! * * * * And last but not least, we have the “little green freshmen” (a little greener than our freshmen of ’47!!)!! First we have Barbara Smith, the first Smith of that family but not by any means the last (there are three more) and Conr.ad Stamey (We hope he’ll appreciate this and remember that we love barbecue.) 4 * * « Next comes “Kirksey” Sink and that good looking Jack Binns!!!! * 4> » «. Also there’s Jackie’s sister, Molly Evans, who is of interest to Gary Everhart as well as to us!!! * * * * Now comes the last of the Hoopers, Hayden, with the future May Queen of ’52, Janice Johnson! 4> « * « These sisters and brothers are getting us down but def. We come now to Ruth Jenkins’ sister, Joan, who is starting her high school days with a bang, better known as Tommy Ribelin!!! 4> * * « We’re just compelled to stop, but for once we’re still running over with hot information for next month, so see ya then!!!!! * « • * THE EYES AND EARS OF LEXINGTON HIGH What A Difference! —Ruth Jenkins 1 YEAR AGO The Junior Class selected their class rings the other day. The thoughts on many minds are turning to the lucky gal or guy that will get to “tote” that new ring. The well-worn path to the hospital was trod quite a few times by Martha H. during the absence of Bill. We see Ralph Banning waiting on Peggy Hardy every day at lunch. “Ye Olde Song Shoppe” Ushers in Lexhipep Subscription Drive. ■Veterans’ Club Organized. L. H. S. Boy, I think Becky and Benny are cute as can be. Both have simply swell personalities. Robert Peeler and Hubert Olive seem to have the same taste when it comes to girls. Salem Academy isn’t so bad, is it? Let’s see, Mary Nell Lopp and Agnes Wilson seem to be running a good race over Hugh. Could you find a better match than Jane S. and Zacky? Jimmy Poston, why don’t you settle down to one girl? You surely have a lot of the girls’ hearts a-flutter. Come on. Woody; why don’t you and Enid get together? 3 YEARS AGO . New School Store Now Open The niew dchool store has been opened in room 200, and Mr. Leonard, student oouncil advisor, and Bobby Hendricks, president of the student body, have worked hard to secure a convenient and adequite place for the store, and it has been greatly im proved. It will be open before school, between the second and third periods, at lunch, and after school. A coca-cola machine has been in stalled for the convenience of the stu dents. Candy, pencils, notebook pa per, typing paper, and other articles are also sold at the store. Carolyn Swing, storekeeper, and Mary Dean Hedrick, assistant store keeper, have already proved them selves very efficient. The student council has asked that the students co-operate with them and help make this the best school store yet. It is run for the convenience of the stu dent body, and the proceeds will also be used for the benefit of the school.
