Finalists Are Chosen —PAT HANKINS The Lexington chapter of the American Field Service has an nounced the following finalists in the American’s Abroad program: Martha Hardee, Jimmy Snyder, Dobbin Callahan, and Maxey Sanderson. Martha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Hardee, holds many honors at LSHS. She is a mem ber of the LEXHIPEP staff and a member of the Tri-Hi-Y, of which she is vice president. Dur ing her freshman and sophomore years she was a member of the Latin Club and the debating team. ,She was also a Junior-fSenior Waitress. She is presently in the Science Club, Spanish Club, and Pep Club, of which she was homecoming sponsor, (Continued on Page 5) —MARTHA HARDEE Surprisingly the White Rabbit was not late to conduct the royial ceremony of the annual Tri-Hi-Y Coronation Ball held on Novem ber 17, 1961. The decor of the Coronation was that of the queen’s croquet garden from Alice in Wonder land. A golden apple tree, a card tree, and three large cards set the stage for the entrance of the King and Queen of Hearts and their court of Tri-Hi-Y members. At last the royal rulers, King of Hearts, Carey Noel Morphis and Queen of Hearts, Mary Ma- rinda Conrad, were announced and crowned by the White Rab bit, Carol McWhorter. “Putt” is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave F. Conrad, Jr. Noel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mor phis, Jr. The girls of the court paid special tribute to the king and queen by performing a fig ure. For the entertainment of th® court a skit of the Mad Tea Party was re-enacted by the Jun ior members of the Tri-Hi-Y. Alice was played by Arlene Bick- el; the Mad Hatter, Martha Har dee; the Dormouse, Jt^ckie Myers; the M^rch Hare, Regi Williams; Tweedle Dum, Sandra Craver; and Tweedle Dee, Libby Ferguson. The curtain closed with an hon or dance led by the king and queen, later joined in by the members of their court. CALENDAR OF EVENTS Dec. 15—Basketball Asheboro—here Dec. 20—Christmas Assembly Dec. 21-31—Christmas Holidays Dec. 29—Tannenbaum Dance Jan. 13—College Board Exam Jan. 15-19—Semester Exams Lamar Clark Voted Outstanding Citizen -JIMMY SNYDER The House of Representatives has unanimously chosen Lamar Clark as this issues “Citizen of the Month.’’ Lamar, known pri marily for his athletic ability and leadership, is also one of the friendliest and best liked mem bers of the Seinor Class. His varied outside interests are shown by his membership in the Latin, Pep, and Mongram Clubs. He has twice been a mem ber of the House of Representa tives, and has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in both the morning and evening services. Football is his best liked sport, and here too he has been given responsibility. His teammates selected him as one of the tri-captains for the 1961 season. Basketball and base ball are his other two sports, having lettered in both. With this (Continued on Page 12)
