Mr. Kiser has set a new style
in basketball guarding, his idea is
to creep up to the man on tip-toe
and then knock the ball out of his
hand.

Wasn't it funny the way Mr.

coast yelling’ “gimme, gimme,

\\’e wonder what the signifi
cance of “Tangle" or “Tangle
foot" is? Even the faculty has
caught on! We Wonder!
Washington's message to those
who "fought and triumphed"
with him shows the value of care
fully chosen words.
'i'his week while we are look
ing for the best in fuiglish, we
might aso look for the best qual
ities in our friends, class mates,
ami teachers. How much more
pleasant will be the atmosphere
around G. fl, S. if we keep onr
eyes open to the nice, agreeable
things around ns.
How much more livable will be
the day. if every time an oiipor-
tunity is offered, we use it to
make some one else feel happier.
Mary may he a person you do
not especially like, hut even so
if her hair looks well, tell her
about it. Or teacher may rub
you the wrong way,” but evenso,
if she or he, makes a point in the
lesson attractive, tell her or him
about it.
Telling people their good qual
ities rarely hurts them very much
On the contrary it usually gives
them a nice warm feeling about
the heart, and they become so
imbued with it that they pass it
on to the next person they meet.
Thus by a simple act, you have
started a ball rolling, that may
roll on and on forever. Try it!

Better Speech 'Week
Better Speech Week is back
again! This time it is to be ob
served in a manner different from
any of the others.
Ilere-to-fore it has been the
rule to try to see see the mistakes,
and the places where we fell down
in the speaking and writing of
our language. But now rather
than looking for faults, we are
seeking for virtues, in all that
we see and hear.
.As Socrates sought an "honest
man," so we will seek beauty,
and perfection in our English this
week.

Students Respond to Call of Ath
letic Association
I’eh. 1, was the high water
mark in Athletics, No time dur
ing the whole school year, with
the possible exception of the first
month, has proved so fruitful fi
nancially, nor has been so indica
tive of the spirit of the student
body of G. If. S.
•At a special plea during the
latter part of March, fifty dollars
was asked for from tlie students.
The money was needed badly and
it was felt that the students could
give that much witliout feeling it.
I'or some reason the appeal went
home and (ireenshoro High
School was a stirring place for a
few days. Teachers came with
donations, .Athletic secretaries
u-ent to work in earnest, the Girls’
.Athletic Council put its shoulder
to the wheel, and as is always
true, things worked. Instead of
the fifty dollars, which were ask-
edfor, more than one hundred
dollars came as dues to the Ath
letic association.
Too much praise cannot be
given to the Girls’ Athletic Coun-
cli in this work, nor to two or
three individual girls in the
scliool Session Room 203, as
usual and always, came to the res
cue with 100 per cent, 201, fol
lowed, then 107, 207, and very
near 100 per cent came from sev
eral other rooms.
With such a boost as that the
Association is much nearer on its
feet than at any other time dur
ing the year, and the students
should know it. But there is one
caution. The battle is not won,
the vessel is not safe. If an ap
preciative and sympathetic re
sponse as fine as last month will
continue for three months more,
conditions will be much better as
far as our athletics is concerned, i
Keep it up boys and girls, it’sj
needed and you don’t regret it.
The work thus far is a thousand'
times appreciated.
—C. W. Phillips.
NEWS WRITERS’ CLUB
MEETS
Last Monday evening, Julian
Johnston’s home was the scene
of one of the most instructive
and most enjoyable meetings of
any sort held this year. The
Newswriter’s club held their
first meeting and in passing we
will say that it really was a hum
dinger.
In the library, surrounded by
.some of the world's best works
of art both in literature and in
painting, this little group met for
the purpose of discussing news
paper work. The first hour was
profitably spent in discussing the
editing of a school paper and the
value of one to the school. The
planning of the work for the rest
of the year was then attended to
and a very satisfactory course of
procedure was mapped out. Re
freshments were then served as
the happy climax to an enjoyable
evening. Those enjoying the
hospitality of Air. Johnston, who
is, by the way, the President of
this infant but thriving organiz
ation, were: Misses Pete Stin-
nette, Josephine Davant,; Mar
jorie Blair, and Messrs. William
Sprinkle, Leonard Temko. Mr.
“Charley” Phillips and Miss Ber
tha Ferree dropped in for refresh
ments. The next meeting will
be held at the home of Aliss Jo
sephine Davant to which every
member is eargerly looking for
ward, mainly as a means for en
lightenment intellectually and
then again we all enjoy it. Aliss
Edna Tyre is one of the bunch
and her official name is “Faculty
.Advisor.”
—Leonard Temko.
