G. H. S. PILLKNOGKERS WIN
FIRST GAME ON ROAD
Katey did!

Score Ten to Five
The boys’ varsity nine again
proved its all conquering power
when it handed the little end of a
10 to 5 socre to Sanford highs
Thursday, March 29.
The well drilled Sanford team
waged a creditable battle and suc
ceeded in holding the locals down
to the minimum. Chears, Oliver
and Palmer for Sanford demon
strated their well known swift fliers
for the benefit of many admiring
spectators and to the detriment of
our own, wonder team.
“Buster” Swift, starring for G. H.
S., held the enemy to the zero
mark for six consecutive innings.
He then stepped off the slab in
favor of Weiland Hill, remarkable
moundsman for a first year’s man.
Burroughs supplanted Hill in this
line and twisted the game to the
finish in excellent style.
John Sykes, manager of the pur
ple and gold, added to the already
honorable record by his super-hu
man performance behind the bat.
He was ably seconded by “Willie”
Greene at short and Norman Block
at first base. Harrison holding
down the initial sack showed the
pure gold stuff.
Swift piled up the score by his
smashing blows to the pill, which
he drove over the fence in the
sixth round for a leisurely walk
around the diamond. Greene back
ed him up by his numerous well
placed bingles.

BOYS’ TENNIS
Prospects are good for a fine ten
nis team this spring, according to
coach Lefler. The members of the
squad have been practicing for the
last two weeks at the courts of the
country club and the Y. M. C. A.
Win. Scott, Clarence Scott, Clement
Penn, and Thomas King, all mem
bers of the team last fall, are
showing much form, and are ex
pected to show up well at Chapel
Hill. This spring a number of good
matches have been engaged for the
boys’ tennis team, the foremost, of
course, will be at Chapel Hill. The
four players entering the champion'
ship series there will probably re
ceive their letters.

AN OLD MAXIM
“A good beginning, a bad end
ing.” Let’s change the old saying a
little bit and say a bad beginning
a-d a good ending.
Greensboro high school lost its
fii’i'l game to Trinity High School
lads with a s- ore of 14 to 7. Mac
intosh and Hill were on the firing
line for the locals. Although the
game was lost, Mr. Phillips was
not in the least bit disappointed
baseball and with more good coach-
for the team showed promise of real
ing is expected to develop into a
state championship team.
—Buster Swift.
ATHLETICS FOR LASSIES
The girls have an unusually full
program for this spring in then-
athletics. The field day, which
has been given annually for the
past three years, is the headlight
of the girls’ program. All the
classes are working hard with theii
respective coaches and are striving
to come out on top.
Swimming is also a drawing card
and three meets have already been
held. Lois Dobson, though only a
freshman, is our star in this line.
Baseball and volleyball are also
attracting much attention among the
girls and the teams are beginninj
their practices.
“Horseshoes” have recently been
added as a sport for girls—The girls
not playing urge the players to
control their shoes better.
These are some of the activities
in which the girls are occupied.
The girls are begged to come out
and be faithful in the practices
throughout the season.
—Flax McAlister.
Hurrah for the G. H. S. baseball
team! They defeated the Reidsville
high school team, Wednesday af
ternoon, at Cone Park, by a score
of 5 to 0.
It was about five o’clock when
the Reidsville team arrived so the
game was limited to seven innings.
The team was late on account of
automobile trouble. Miss Jennie
Lind Penn, sponsor of the team,
started them off by pitching a ball
to “Buster” Swift, pitcher. Before
the Reidsville team had had time
to get warmed up the Greensboro
Highs had made four runs. After
that bad start the visitors fought
nobly and well but to no avail,
they did not amount to much when
it came to driving the ball into
safe territory.
‘Buster” Swift demonstrated his
wonderful pitching and “Willie”
Greene made some splendid stops.
The fifth and final Greensboro run
was made in the sixth inning.
The pitching of Swift, also of
Metier, after the first, the fielding
of Greene and a swift running catch
in left by
Link were the
features.
All hits were one-timers.

BARN YARD GOLF
Of course every one knows the
meaning of this interesting subject.
If they do not we cannot explain
why but we can almost say they
haven’t been at school for the last
six weeks. Even the girls have
taken up this wonderful game.
There may be some oldtimers on the
boys’ side but from latest views
on the girls’ side we will have
to admit there are some oldtimers
just warming up. The girlh have
been a tittle bit slow in starting but
now that they have, we feel sure
there will be a few interesting
games between the two members of
the school and we also know that
in the Girls’ Field Day there will
be contests bebtween the classes. The
girls are holding for surprise some
of their ability of ringers in barn
yard golf.
