HFS DEFEAT REIDSVILLE
IN FIRST GAME 7 TO 2
Bennett and Fife Pitch for G. H. S.—
Smith Hurler for Visitors.
Greensboro Highs started Tuesday aft
ernoon their first formally scheduled
game of the season when they defeated
Reidsville Highs at Cone park, 7-2.
Bennett started for Greensboro and
he held the visitors to two hits and one
run in the five innings he worked. Bill
Fife pitched the last four innings and
he allowed hut one hit and one run. The
locals got to Smith, the Reidsville hurler,
for nine safe hits, including triples by
Wyrick and a two-sacker by Maus.
Combinations of hits and errors gave
the visitors one run in each of the sec
ond and seventh innings.
Greensboro showed up better than in
either of the trial games preceding the
contest, and indications are that the
team possesses more punch and power
than those of the past two seasons.

The winning streak of G. FI. S. base
ball team was unbroken when they de
feated Asheboro Highs at Cone park
April 1 with a score of 7 to 5. Fife
gave up nine hits, as did Hamlet, but
kept them scattered except in the fifth,
when they gathered two doubles, a sin
gle and a hit batsman. He almost got
into a hole in the fourth frame, but good
teamwork saved him.
Burroughs, Fife and Caudle were the
batting stars. Burroughs getting two
hits, Fife three and Caudle two, which
brought in several men. Hamlet fanned
three while Fife downed eight by the
strike-out route.
The visitors played well, making no
errors, while the locals made four.

Tune: Washington and Lee Swing
We’re rooting for G. H. S. baseball team.
Of all the basebal teams, they are the
scream;
We haven’t seen a team they couldn’t
lick.
They hit that pill, by heck, with a punch
that’s sure to stick,
And when they’re on the field and feel
ing fine
They play just like the stars that always
shine, always shine;
They stick right in there all the time, all
the time.
RAH! RAH! RAH!
Incognito.

G. H. S. HOCKEY TEAM
TIES WITH WINSTON, 1-1
Lea Scores for Greensboro, Hines for
Visitors—Mayes Plays Well.
Winston-Salem and Greensboro High
girls field hockey teams played to a 1-1
tie Friday, April 1, on N. C. C. W. field,
in the first interscholastic contest of its
kind ever held in the state. Teams were
very evenly matched and little oppor
tunity was given either side for scoring.
Lea scored for our team.
The visitors substituted an entire line
up in order to break the tie, but the
locals put up a great defense. Mayes
also played a good game for our side.
Scoring goals: Lea, Greensboro, and
Hines, Winston-Salem. Umpires: Plow-
der and Royal.
JAMESTOWN WINNER OVER
G. H. S. NINE—SCORE 7 TO 6
Thursday, March 26, Jamestown won
over the Greensboro High boys at Cone
park, 7 to 6.
When Willie Fife was getting along
fine and striking out many of the opjios-
ing team in the eighth inning, his team
gave out just when he needed their sup
port most. The faithful nine thought
perhaps they could win in the last inn
ing, but their plan fell short.
J. Willard, visiting pitcher, was in
good condition, and did not allow our
boys many hits. Tolan started pitching
for the locals but was taken out and
Fife took his place. Willard fanned 11,
Fife 10, and Tolan 1.
Our boys went ahead in the seventh
inning but the eighth found them trail
ing behind. It was a hard fought game
but to no avail, as Jamestown came out
the victor.

GIRLS’ ATHLETIC PLANS
LEAKSVILLE DEFEATS
LOCAL HIGHS 8 TO 6
Both Teams Are Weak in Field-
Visitors Score On Errors.
I.easkville High School batters sent
three Greensboro High pitchers to the
bench Friday, April 3, at Leaksville, and
defeated our team 8 to 6. Greensboro
evidently left their batting eye at home,
as they were unable to connect with Fes-
perman’s offerings. The Leaksville pitch
er was in good form, allowing only five
scattered hits and striking out 16.
Both teams were weak in the field, and
most of Leaksville’s scoring was done on
errors. Brewer and Wyrick were the
stars for Greensboro.
OUTLOOK OF SWIMMING
TEAM SEEMS VERY DARK
Lack of Coach May Cause Loss of
All Chances.
The girls have a full program planned
for this spring, such as hockey, baseball,
tennis, hiking, and a big field meet in
Winston. Miss Causey, who has charge
of our hockey team, ended the season
with the Winston game, Wednesday.
In baseball the girls are planning to
outshine the boys. With Miss Moore as
coach, they feel confident they can do so.
A little later a big swimming meet will
be held in Winston.

Walker Makes Them 1
Better f
The Dramatic club is now preparing
three one-act plays to be presented April
17. “The Maker of Dreams” is being
coached by Miss Kelly, while Miss Mer
cer is coaching “The Robber.” The other
play, a tragedy in which Margaret Fer
guson has the leading role, will be coach
ed by Miss Sapp.
Flow many students knew that G. H.
S. had a swimming team last spring and
that she was expecting to have a better
one this spring?
Last year through the efforts of Mr.
McKay, G. H. S. took up the latest form
of high school sport, and after a great
deal of work secured two meets. In the
first G. FI. S. and W. H. S. met at
Winston. The other was between G.H.S.
and W.H.S. at Greensboro. Greensboro
lost the first and won the second meet.
Because of the fact that things had not
been started until so late in the season,
there were no more meets.
When school opened in September the
members of last year’s team held a meet
ing and elected “Bunny” Wimbish cap
tain and “Hobo” Griflfin manager. About
three weeks ago the team started practice
but is now about to give up the idea
of a team because they canont find a
coach.
Shall G. H. S., one of the first schools
to have a swimming team in the state,
be forced to give up this sport? Some
thing should be done.

NINE GIRLS HIKE TO JAMESTOWN
Nine girls left G. H. S. for James
town Saturday at 9:30 o’clock with Miss
Rankin as chaperone. After about five
hours of walking (the last of which was
more dragging than walking) they ar
rived at Jamestown. The party met in
the village drugstore, where they ate a
lunch of sour pickles, cheese, crackers,
etc. After an hour in Jamestown they
started on the homeward trip. Several
“lifts” shortened the way home. The
hikers rode home on the third deck of a
big coca-cola truck, dirty but happy.
