OPENING MEETING OF
PI. ASSOCIATION IS
HELD IN AlffilTORIUM
Dr. Myers Makes Prayer—Au
dience Stands and Sings “My
Country, ’Tis of Thee”
NEW PLANS ANNOUNCED
Teachers Are Introduced — Mr. A. D.
Douglas Makes Inspiring Talk to
a Large Audience
The first meeting of the Parent
Teacher xissociation was held Tuesday
evening, September 13, in the high
school auditorium.
Mrs. A. L. Thompson, president of
the association, opened the meeting
with a few words of welcome. Doctor
Charles F. Myers gave the prayer, and
the audience stood and sang “My Coun
try Tis of Thee.” After this patriotic
hymn Mr. Grady Miller and Mrs. A. E.
Stanley sang a duet. Mrs. A. D.
Thompson then introduced each mem
ber of the faculty for the benefit of the
parents. When each teacher had been
called, Mr. Phillips, introduced R. D.
Douglas.
Mr. Douglas spoke on the “Spirit of
Greensboro.” He said that the people
in Greensboro were proud of their won
derful spirit. He gave all responsibil
ity for the future of this so-called
Greensboro spirit, to the Greensboro
High School. ‘AVe parents of the stu
dents are dependent on the teachers
for the moral training and discipline
of ouc children,” said Mr. Douglas.
He played high tribute to the teachers,
sayiug that he had implicit confidence
that the young men and young women
of the Greensboro High School would
be great up-holders of the “Spirit of
Greensboro.”
JUNIORS AND SENIORS MEET
FOR FIRST TIME IN CHAPEL
(Continued from Page Three)
wind everything up Thursday and Fri
day. Show your school spirit and sub
scribe to your prize wimung maga
zine and paper,” said Henry.
After the announcements, Mr. Phil
lips asked students to express their
opinions on the new registration plan
and new chapel arrangement. The
votes Avere about equal in each case
with a slight majority in favor of the
latest plan. Mr. Phillips announced
that the boys’ soccer team would be
gin practice Thursday afternoon at the
Old Ball Park.
All boys are reciuested to come out as
soon as possible. He also reminded
them that Finley Atkisson is coming
over to organize the Cheerio squad and
will be here to help the coach of G. IT.
S. cheering section. Mr. Phillips urged
those who did not get handbooks which
were gotten out by the student council
to get them as there are plenty avail
able. The principle also appealed for
loyalty from the students to the faculty,
to the school, and to themselves.
Mr. Phillips also explained to the
students that High Life and Homcsimn
were prize winning papers and that
those who do not contribute to these
publications are missing something.
“If you students will only realize that
the teachers are working with you and
for the best interests of everyone, and
considering that if you will pledge your
loyalty, I am assured of a fine and suc
cessful school year,” said the principal.

SPEED!
Experts after seAmral years work on
the problem have just published the
details of a new and more efficient
traffic plan for G. H. S. This plan,
when carried into effect, will mean an
unmeasurable saving in time for both
students and teachers.
In the new system the time spent
in changing classes will be cut more
than half. Every student Avill be re
quired to be in the classroom one min
ute after the changing bell rings. But
hoAv Avill it be possibie to change class
es in such a short time, inquires the
incredulous reader. The ansAAmr can
be expressed in a monosyllable—speed.
The old condition of things in aaTucIi
only one quarter of the energy and po-
tiential speed of these vigorous young
people Avas in practical use Avas one
of the most Glaring inefficiencies in the
Avhole high school.
It has been estimated that in the
time Avasted in one day by the Avhole
number of students under the old sys
tem one conscientious young man or
Avoman could complete a full high
school and college course and a feAV
extra degrees throAAm in besides.
Think Avhat precious moments Ave are
Avasting!
Another great adAnmtage of the neAV
system is that it aaTII incidentally pro
vide excellent physical training for the
young people. All Avill be given an
equal chance to participate in this
healthful form of athletics. It aaTH
not be surprising if under the neAV
regime some of the most depraA’ed
book-Avorms become great track stars.
Then too, there Aviii be enough casual
ties to make that one minute full of
thrills for those Avhose natures crave
that sort of thing. In fact it may be
possible to do aAAmy Avith football en
tirely, this neAV sport providing such
an excellent substitute for it.
Of course as Avith all ugaa" ideas
there is a slight sIioav of opposition,
among the conservative element. It is
rumored that among the students an
indiAUdual by the name of Charles
Stout is the ringleader in the opposi
tion group. Stout has already caused
several traffic jams by blocking hall-
Avays Avith his ponderous bulk. Hoav-
eAmr, it is certain that it the end the
authorities Avill prove more than a
matcii for this young man. Such a
Avonderful plan as this must succeed!
Students of G. H. S., do your bit to
put it OAmr!
If seeing is believing, men should
have inipli(‘it faith in Avomen these days.

think that I shall like it best of all.’
The high school that he attended in

very good, especially basketball and
baseball. The pupils go to school only
eight months. Instead of dramatic
