SHORT HAIR ENCOURAGED
Have You Heard That—?
Miss Ann Roos, instructor of the
National Girl Scouts headquarters, is
giving several hours to the teaching of
a limited number of students, who are
interested in physical education.
Classes are being held at the physical
education building of North Carolina
College.
Chinese Desire to Have Their Own Gov
ernment, States Miss Mary
Hosier’s Guest
Miss Tsok Zun Chen, a Chinese stu
dent at Greensboro College, made a
talk on China, May 4, in Miss Mary
Dosier’s fourth period history class.
Some of the high lights in Miss
Chen’s talk were: For more than a
century China has been under the con
trol of imperialistic nations. The peo
ple of China have realized this and
want independent control with a gov
ernment of the people, by the people,
and for the people. Peking is expect
ed to be captured this summer or in
the near future, but foreign interfer
ence may keep this from taking place.
The Chinese sincerely wish that for
eigners would keep out and let them
fight for their own independence. The
missionaries and their property are
great danger.
She went on to say that men wear
hats, but the women alwas^s go bare
headed. They have street cars and
large stores and theaters. The people
wear their native dress and in the
winter they Avear heavier clothes in
stead of having fires. When Chang
Tso Ling was in power he passed a
law that every one should have long
hair. Now that Chwing Kai Skeik is
in power he encourages short hair.
Miss Chen finished school in China
and will graduate in 1931 from
Greensboro College.

MR. H. L. CLEMENTS TALKS
AT PHYSICS LABORATORY
Begins Lecture With an Explanation of
Telephone—Passes Around Old Model
of Bell’s First Telephone
H. L. Clements, of the American
Telephone and Telegraph Company,
gave a lecture on Friday, May 4, in
the physics laboratory on telephotog
raphy and television. The members
of several other classes heard the lec
ture along with the physics class.
Mr. Clements began with an explana
tion of the telephone, and passed
around for inspection a model of Bell’s
first telephone, an article which ap
peared to interest the students very
much.
Telephotography, or the sending of
pictures by means of wires or radio,
was the next subject discussed.
He then explained television, or mov
ing pictures sent by wire or radio.
“Television equipment for use on ra
dios is now being sold in New York,”
said Mr. Clements, “but the price is as
yet quite exclusive, and the thing is
still more or less of an experiment.”
