Page Four HIG] LIFE PURPLE WHIRLWINDS WILL FACE GASTONIA G. H. S. Gridders to Oppose Second Western Conference Title Contender. GAME IS PLAYED TODAY Gastonia High School’s colorful Green Wave football eleven will pro vide the Purple Whirlwinds with their second conference opposition of the sea son in a tilt to be played on the Me morial stadium gridiron today at 3 :30. Victorious over Salisbury’s Bbyden High team, 12 to 0, in the first con ference contest two weeks ago, the Purple and Gold gridders are hopeful of making it two straight in the win column tomorrow. A victory for the locals over the Gastonia boys would send the Whirlwinds against Charlotte High’s Wildcats next week with an un defeated conference slate at stake. The Greensboro-Charlotte tilt, to be played in the Queen City, might settle the Western conference class “A” race for the season. Jim Morgan, former three-letter man star at Davidson college and now head coach of the Gastonia lads, will pit an improved Green Wave combination against the Whirlwinds here tomorrow. Although swamped by Charlotte, 37 to 0, the Gastonia eleven has gained im pressive triumphs over Belmont High 27 to 0, and Shelby High 29 to 0. The encounter With the Whirlwinds will also mark the second conference tilt for Gastonia. With Fred Whltehart, diminutive backfield ace, back in harness. Coach Bob Jamieson will have his regular combination ready to face the Green Wave eleven, with the exception of Charlie (Hardrock) Hipp, tackle, out with a fractured jaw. Coach Jamieson will probably have the following start ing lineup on the field this afternoon. Bob Denny and Emil Showfety, ends; Robert George and Herman Smith, tackles; Bill Grosse and Jack Ginsberg, guards; Charles James, center; Fhed Whitehart, quarterback; and Captain Charlie Baker and L. E. Dempsejq half backs. P.-T. A.
