GYM As the pigskin parade comes to a close, the interest of every sports- loving high school student is shifted to—yes, you’ve guessed it—basketball; and, according to Coach Jamie'Son, the team is well equipped for the coming season. The first game will be played De cember 17 in the G. IT. S. gym when the Purple Cagers encounter the Golden Bears from Burlington. This game W'ill begin a series of ten conference contests which Avill include opposing teams from Charlotte, High Point, Gas tonia, Winston-Salem, and Salisbury. Ed Langston led the G. H. S. cagers last year through a successful season, totaling seven wins and three defeats in the Western Conference schedule. This year, the team will be led by four returning lettermen, L. E. Demp sey, P. D. Apple, Walter Waynick, and Charlie Baker; and it looks very much as if the Purple Cagers will establish a better rating during the coming basketball season. MRS. SHAFFER SPEAKS TO SALESMANSHIP CLASS Mrs. Nita W. Shaffer, special solici tor for the Equitable life Assurance Society, will visit the class in sales manship at the Greensboro High School today and give an informative discus sion on the subject of ‘‘Selling” and the opportunities the field affords. She plans to emphasize the fact that there is a real opportunity in the field of selling, and will stress the need of the proper type of young people quali fied, from both the standpoint of train ing and personality to enter the work. As prerequisites for sucess, she will nrobablv give , the following: a cheer- ful and courte f* personality, a love in one’s heart fc ^ umanity, and a prod uct that is wo-...y and one that meets a real need for living the most abun dant life. The Southeastern Region of the Na tional Council of Teachers of English Avill hold a conference in Orlando, Fla., December 27-29. A letter from the chairman of the committee says that at least 100 English teachers from North Carolina are expected, and suggests that representatives of G. IL. S. make the trip in a group. States included in the Southeastern area are North Caro lina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida. With Other High Schools The printing department of the Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville, N. C., now boasts an enrollment of 36 students. This department was restored to the curriculum this fall and is now a vocational course.—Sky High. Elsamae Young Avill read the scripture, Luke 2, in French, and Sudie Clark, the president, Avill preside. The roll call Avill be in French also, and each member Avill answer Avith a French proverb.
