BASKETBALL SEASON
OPENS DECEMBER 17
Burlington Is First Opponent
in a Series of Ten Con
ference Games.
WILL PLAY IN G. H. S. GYM
As the pigskin parade comes to a
close, the interest of every sports-
loving high school student is shifted
to—yes, you’ve guessed it—basketball;
and, according to Coach Jamie'Son, the
team is well equipped for the coming
season.
The first game will be played De
cember 17 in the G. IT. S. gym when
the Purple Cagers encounter the Golden
Bears from Burlington. This game
W'ill begin a series of ten conference
contests which Avill include opposing
teams from Charlotte, High Point, Gas
tonia, Winston-Salem, and Salisbury.
Ed Langston led the G. H. S. cagers
last year through a successful season,
totaling seven wins and three defeats
in the Western Conference schedule.
This year, the team will be led by
four returning lettermen, L. E. Demp
sey, P. D. Apple, Walter Waynick, and
Charlie Baker; and it looks very much
as if the Purple Cagers will establish
a better rating during the coming
basketball season.
