April 29, 1938 HIGH LIFE Page Three Sub-Deb Lights By MARTY COCKFIEBD "Want to give an informal for yonr club? Swell! Here's one way; Give a buffet supper—Mexican style, wliich is to say, ‘Very informal.” Carry out your color scheme in d a r k blue and white, and if you have gobs of what it takes (we mean money, of course) use those ducky imported Mexican mats, plates, cups, saucers and above all, the pearl - handled knives that go with the set. Most of us, however, udll have to do without the imported Mexican job, but I'll bet we can have just as milch ftin 1 Concentrate on two things: (1) good food, (2) good music, and 3mur partj^ udll go otf with a bang—you know, the kind that booms the town ! Forego dec orations, favors, etc., in preference to good victuals and a lot of them. If you plan to entertain in jmur own home, do the disappearing act with all the breakable and valuable furniture, vases, and Ma's pet elephant — you might just as well do a thorough job while you're at it and move everything out of the rooms you're gonna “party” in, and then there will be no slighting remarks heard afterwards about those damaging cpialities that jmu and your fellow socialighters seem to have such an abundance of. Don't worry about chairs—we don't mind sitting on pil lows, porch rails, even the floor's none too good for us! It’s smart now to omit printed invi tations — merely mail your friends a program (“bids” to you) giving the hostess’ name, time, and place of party, and R. S. V. P., and you may expect the gang to accept pronto. -Auvl—liOi/O you end up being “happy about the whole thing.” “School days, school days. Dear old crap and pool daj^s—” Is that what we, as G. H. S. alumni want to remember about our high school days? Then, too, we know it’s a swell sign of spring and all that to see all you lads and lassies holding hands, playing marbles, etc., but as Mr. Routh says. “It’s merely a matter of taste—” and we don't want G. H. S. to get a reputation for such “scandalous goings on,'' as our elderly maiden aunt would say! Extract from the Carolinian exchange desk; Nitrate—charge for a telegram sent in the evening. Skiing—noise made by a cash regis ter. Gable—used to send messages across the ocean. Fleur—what we walk on. CITY TEACHERS VISIT SPRING HOPE SCHOOL Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Mrs. Margie Marsh Watson, prin cipal of Ay cock school, and Miss Lorie 'Walker, fifth grade teacher atCaldwell, visited the Spring Hope Experimental school. The Spring Hope school, located near Rocky Mount, N. C., is experi menting in the education of excep tional children. Encounter—what we do business on. Brick.s—what happens to glass when it drops. Confusion—Chinese god. Danzig—what young folks like to be doing. Mezzanine—what we read. Participation—rain or snow. Bamboo—Italian baby. Filet Mignon—opera by Puccini. Octopus—a person who hopes for the best. Graduating soon, seniors! And we don’t like those “I hope, hope, hope’s” issuing from the rear gallery! If you’re not sure, why don’t you do something about it? You’ve lost a lot of time, but, as the old saying goes, “Better late than never” . . . chin up, shoulders back, chest out . . . forward march! And we don’t want any retreaters in our corps. p- Compliments of Mann’s O.
