Thnrsdky, May 25, 1978 HIGH LIFE Page 7 UnBelievable Varsity The Grimsley Varsity Baseball team kept its winning streak alive through thirteen games as they continue to dominate their foes with tremendous pitching and a tenacious hitting attack led by Ashley Apple, whose consistent hitting in the lead off position and his .333 batting average starts off Whirlie games with optimism. Andre Blount, with an unique combination of power and speed, is always dependable when the Whirlies need a runner in scoring position. Rod Elkins at .405, Don Dempsey .296, Chuck Fesmire .360, and Steve Wile .300 are the best at driving in runs as they present the heart of the Whirlie attack. Chuck Fesmire, displaying his brand new bat, drove in four runs with a two run homer and a two run triple and Tom Williams shut-out the Mustangs on four hits while collecting his fifth win as Grimsley defeated Parkland 10-0. The Whirlies scored four runs in the opening inning as Ashley Apple walked to start the game. Apple stole second and scored as Dean Butner couldn’t handle Andre Blount’s shot at short. Rod Elkins drove in Blount with a single, but was forced at second as Tim Leitner was safe at first with a fielder’s choice. Then Fesmire, new bat in hand, ap proached the plate and drove a shot to right-center field that left the trademark of the ball on the bat. Steve Wile found himslef play ing a new position in the third inning. Rod Elkins, shortstop, was ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Steve Wile, who is the regular second sacker, was moved to short and Kyle Neve finished the game at second. Steve Wile came through with an unusual bunt single that scored Jolly from second. Glenn Ford moved Wile to second on a sacrifice and Wile advanced to third after a walk to Ashley Apple and a wild pitch by pitcher Gary James.
