Coach Fox's baseball men will hit j road to 'Winston tomorrow for a diamond contest with the Twin City This will be the second con- (jreuce some of the season. The monnd for this game will be ►oiciipied by either..,Peake or Crutch- ielii, probably tbe former. "Buck" Peahe is inexperienced but has proved n-oi'tli at least once before when fetooh the High Point game at a point ftere the Pointers had a nine-run lead lg the second inning, and held them admirably. It was partially Peace's fault that they got the lead. Sreensboro did not win the game, but Peake showed steel in the ball that > tossed'while in such a deep hole. The catcher, and probably the most dependable and steady man on tbe ieam, will be Red Riley. Riley Is per- better known as a slashing foot ball tackle, but is a great little well. ELDER MAKES 80-YD. RUN and has far more to do with the way a pitcher pulls out of a jam than parent on the surface. The first baseman for the Winston game will probably be Gene Bullock. Bullock has not played much, but will probaly get the call in many confer ence games. He knocked a three- bagger in the High Point game. Iddings on Second The clown of tbe diamond, Carl Iddings, will start at, second. He is good fielder and generally a good in with the pole. His mate at short uill be Joe Edmuudson, a letter man iud a good fielder. The third baseman will most likely be Charley Carroll, Jr., descendant of •ell-known 1‘atriot (pro) third tiaseman of a few years back. The slugger of the squad by all odds, Red Whitt, left fielder. Red has already lost count of the homers he ias hit this spring, aud his three bag- are two numerous to mention, le veteran of the lot, Bill Whar- is the choice for center field. Bill has beep at It fop three years and tbe outfield isn't the same place without Bill Wharton in it. There Is some doubt as to who will play in the other outer garden. Coach Fox has a habit of letting his relief pitcher play this position, and if is not in the box, he will most likely be kept out there on account of his bitting ability. It may be Ray or Koury. Get Good Start From their showing in the first game of the season with Oak Ridge, it looked as if the G. H. S. nine was to be the winning baseball team that has been searched for these many years. True, the Cadets wou, but the closeness of the 7-C score with a team that beat Guilford college, looked pinty good. Whitt was the hero of the game, hitting a homer with two men on. It looked a different story when Bessemer came here the week after, however. Bessemer presented a pitcher who gave only a couple of hits, and scored heavily in the first tw alngs. Greensboro put up a pretty fair fight, but the first two Innings ruined them. Pluvius Knocks Homer About that time slugging Jupe Piubius stepped in and knocked a four bagger, raining out the Randleman same, the Danville game, and the Easter Monday double header at Mount Airy. Things again looked the up and up when the boys finally won a game at Trinity, 7-1, on the set.enth of this GOLF SQUAD PLAYS CHARLOTTE TODAY Stars, Norman, Gunter, Sock- well, Abernethy, Win Most of the Points. With So a pretty good card for the number one man on most teams, Fred generally turns in about Team B had things going in the last ,’e minutes of the practice football games Thursday, April 9, aud scored twice as the lime ran out, but team A had the jump and their 14 points accounted for earlier in the game were good by one marker. With some five minutes left to play, le A’s were on another touchdown march. They got down to twenty, and quarterback Elder called a last dow pass to Cockman. Oka Hester, opposing end, got his arms around it and lit out, not being’ touched for the whole jaunt. The try-for-point was a fullback plunge. Callum fumbled, and the score stood 14-6 with only three more min utes. Team A elected to receive, but were forced to punt. The kick was partially blocked, and the B's had the pigskin in midfield. Floyd Rees, brother of the well known Sammy Bees, tossed it to flester, and he was off again, Pittman went around on a well worked off-taekle dash and made it 14-13. That was the spectacular ending to The first two or three meets, the team entering from Greensboro high was made up of Newnham, Carver, Carlson, and Jeffress or Vemiiug. Winston again proved their su periority hy coming here and beating the home boys again, 13-5. In the last match Durliam was de feated on tlie Sedgefield eonrse, the count ending 12-0. First Different Story The first of the contest was decidedly different. In the initial period Elder, flashy little quarter back for the A’s s expected to make his mark in •arsity next season took the ball on a perfectj spinner play. There was a hole that a steam shovel could have ambled through, with no one in the vicinity, so Elder stepped out and did not stop until he was on the other side of the line, some eighty yards distant •hen he started. Fullback Norcum plunged over for the extra marker. Later in tbe same half the B’s had the ball deep in their own territory. A pass, Rees to Hester, was gathered by Cockman and he ran some thirty yards for six more points. Lee made the point on a wide end run. The outstanding men in the line were Johnson, B guard, and Causey. A center, Every man on the squad saw action for some part of, the four quarters. The Lineup: Burgess, big pitcher for G. H. S. Peake started, and the fourth man up liit it on the nose, scoring three. Peake came out and Crutchfield al lowed the rest. The home team did ®otne hitting, knocking Brogdon out of Ibe box, and Red 'Whitt hoisted twi out of the field, but it was to no avail. Lose to Randleman They outhit Randleman at Randle- man on Tuesday, and started off with * bang, getting five runs in the first ffauie, but losing, 15-12.
