May 26, 1944 HIGH LIFE Boys', GirSs' State Kcl ^Mabry and Jane Holt, newly- elected president and vice-president, respectively, Avill represent Senior high this year in the fifth annual Tar Heel Girls and Boys’ State. These are educational programs in practical Americanism, an effort on rlie part of the American Legion Aux iliary to provide for the girls and hoys of North C'arolina actual knowledge of Lhe fundamental principles in American government. In order to give as many girls and boys as possible the advantage of this excellent training, parents, friends and all civic, patriotic, fraternal, literary and school organizations are invited to sponsor eligible youths of their selec tion. The application for each must be .signed by the siiperintendent or principal of their school and approved !»y the pre.sident of the nearest unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Girls’ State will open on Sunday, .lane 11, and will close on Friday morn ing, June Ifi. at Woman’s College. Boys’ State will be held at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. You have come through with another good year. We are proud of you, the future citizens of Greensboro and the United States. You have shown that you have what it takes to make the grade. Many of you boys are already in some branch of the service and many others of you will be in ducted soon after graduation. A great number of you girls — and some of you boys too if you are young enough — will go off to col lege. And we know that you will put forth a determined effort where ever you go to prove that Senior high has given you the best foundation possible.
