March 25, 1949 High Life Page Seven 'Bout the Youth House By BOB Things were really mellow, “swell- oh ” and “rite” last Saturday night, as the great band that played at {ie Les Souers dance—the J^ycee orchestra—played for an informal that really went over big. Every body has been telling us lately that they really go in for the new dance atmosphere at the Place. Well, just thank euties like Donnie Clemmons and “Kat” Wall. They say they need much less of things we call candle power to “work,” I mean dance, by. Last Wednesday afternoon the wheels about the Youth Center, Dickie Sharp, president, and Elea nor Wrenn, secretary, gathered with the “big brains,” or the Board of Unmanagement to ’cuss and discuss plans for the membership campaign. Tt -..yvl .1 frt fine o 1 in’• It was related to this “hair-brain’ that come next September 15, we’ll have a big membership campaign that’ll see all us “allowances^’ gettin’ an Annual. After that cam paign there’ll be no more buying! As far as monthlies are concerned. Sharp tells me that they’ve gone on into happy huntin’ grounds. The (New') “Youth on the Air” boasts of the fact that tomorro-w’ will be THE day. Lining Burnett, or "Mr. Inside of Sjiorts,” says he’s got a couple of the Big 'Wheels of Golf for interviews. They had their first date that w'eek-end, and in March they decided to go steady. Her only complaint about him is his quick temper, and he claims that she talks too much and is never ready for dates. Otherwise, they get along beautifully. They like to go to the show, the Youth Center, to dances, and just “mess around.” She is a junior and a member of the Les Soures, as w'ell as a drum-majorette. He is a senior, and on the first string basketball team. (The Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning in the last issue w'eie Bert Wade and Carol Har rison.) EXCHANGETTE By Joan Klein PEOPLE ARE GOOD, HONEST, RELIABLE “We should always conduct our selves tow'ard an enemy as if he w'ere one day to be our friend.” PEOPLE ARE GOOD! If they w'eren’t, life w'ould be unbearable for the most of us. That unexpec*ted birthday remembrance, lift to town, or a cheerful “hello” from a- casual passerby makes life livable. Of course, we know that there is the customary line of liars, thieves, cheats, and war-mongers, but these make up onI.y a small part of the population. As a general rule, peo ple are good. People are kind! Remember the lady w'ho held your many books for you one day on the bus? People are patient! A drinking, ignorant white man cursed a negro red cap at the local train station. The colored man returned only a^ calm, friendly, “yassah.” People are sympathetic! Billions of dollars have been sent to suffex’ing Europeans by free w’ill Amencans W’ho have never seen nor hope to see the shores of Europe. People are honest I A caiiienter, finding a billfold in a downtow'n store, opened it, looking for identifi cation. That night, before return ing home, the man drove to the given address and returned the lost article. People are reliable! An elderly service station operator saces scarce items for his regular customers. Patrons arriving weeks later than the set day find the promised articles I waiting for them. I Some folks will tell you that the world is going to the dogs, that you I can’t trust any one these days, and that “life ain’t W'orth living.” Don’t you believe it. Don’t let the pes simists get you down! And above all, don’t ever foregt that people are good! —Greenville High New’s Greenville, (S. C.) High C. C. While you fellows are young and gay. Listen to me w'hile I relate. Three types of girls not to date! (1) Miss Friendly type—This is a type of girl who tries to be friend ly w’ith all male characters and is constantly being called for a date. But alas, after the fish has taken the bait, the girl grows tired of this sucker and starts a search for another one. The only advice is to forget her, for there are plenty of fish in the deep blue sea. Beware, brother, beware! (2) Miss Stone Face type—Here is a type of girl who, when she fails in love, is too serious in whatever she undertakes. Beware, brother, beware! (3) Miss Wolfess type—This ap plies usually to the freshmen and sophomore Hi-school girl. This girl has a heart flutter w'hen a fellow inquires about her and casually re marks, “she's cute,” she then gets the w'rong side and tries to act coy and hook him. (Puppy love, no doubt.) Beware, brother, beware! (Editor’s note: This advice should be heeded by girls, as well as boys!) —The Sandspur Presbyterian Junior College Short and Sweet: A far western newspaper heads the list of births, marriages, and deaths briefly and to the i)oint.
