Page Eight High Life February 14,1950 Bob Murray Wins Youtli Center Elections a. ^ Council Is Beginning Projects for Future . Bob Murray, member of the senior class at Greensboro Senior High, has be^n elected president of the Youth Cfenter at the re cent election. Bob and other new officers and councilmen for 1950 were elected on Saturday, January 28, at the Greensboro Youth Center. New Council The new council members and officers are as follows: president. Bob Murray; vice-president, Jack Ogbum; secretary, Martha Vann Link; treasurer, Joe Free man; and the councilmen, Anne 'W’renn, Lane McGregor, Clint Legette, Sally Boren, Bob Stew art, and Mickey Chamblee. Plans in Progress The Youth Council meets every Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 at the Center. The group is work ing on several projects for this year: helping the polio patient-s at the Central Carolina Conva lescent Hospital, and sponsoring special programs and activities. Plans are in the making for a Valentine Dance, and a dance for the benefit of the polio drive. ■“Youth on th« Air’^ Another council responsibility is seeing that a Youth Center; Club has charge of the Center radio show, “Youth on the Air.’’ 'The G. W. I. 's will be on the air this week. ’Officers Announced at Dance The great moment ending the suspense of waiting for the elec tion results took place at the Spinster’s Hop, where the new officers and council were an nounced. The Spinster’s Hop is an an nual affair. At this dance the girls invited the boys, sent cor sages of anything imaginable, from' radishes to cigarettes, and of course, paid all expenses. Steve Agapion conceded to Billy Michael for the final coun cil seat after a very close vote. New Youth Center officers of 1950 are Bob Murray, president; Jack Ogbum, vice-president; Martha Vann Link, secretaiy; and Joe Freeman, treasurer. These girls play a very important part in the school program. They help cult stencils, type, keep the front counter, run errands, and perr form any and all little odd jobs. Sfrange New Colors Brighton Our School The white uniformed men (pain't- ers) seen around school these days will be here for about six more weeks. They are really brighten ing up the institution with what are said to be the most peculiar coilors ever seen by the human eye. These colors consist of a sea-sick green, i>eeked pink, and watery blue, The first morning these colors were seen by situdents (and teach ers) they all knew that the week end had been too gay and the pace must l>e slowed down. Seriousily, though, the school has been much improved and made cleaner and brighter looking by this coating. Roll in Shakespeare Class is Released The new Shakespeare class began with twenty-four members. Miss Sara Mims, teacher of the class has • made pkns for the semester’s work. The firsit portion of the course will be a study of the life of Shake speare and the theatre, customs, and people of his time. After this the class will study some of Shake speare’s best known plays. Members of the class are: Ed Lovings, Ashley Holland, Betty Lane, Hutson, Moody, Nancy Bal linger, Jim Patton, Jack Hurd.
