Senior Has Eight New Teachers
New Teachers To
Assume Dufies in
Various Subjects
The students and faculty of GHS
welcome the new teachers. These
instructors are Mr. Martin, shop:
Miss Matthews, typing; Mr. Glenn
assistant football coach and his
tory; Mrs. Reynolds, history; Mrs
Haskins, home economics; and Mrs
Randolph, Bible. To help the stu
dents get acquainted with their
new teachers, here is a brief sketch
of each one.
Martin Graduate of N. C. State
Mr. Martin, our new shop in
structor, hails from Hampton, Va.
He went to N. C. State College at
Raleigh^ where he majored in In
dustrial Education and acquired a
B.S. degree. He also was an ap
prentice for the sheet metal trade
at Newport News, Va. During the
war Mr. Martin served two years
on an aircraft carrier.
Miss Matthews, who is teaching
typing in Room 27, is originally
from Pilot Mountain. She went to
Woman’s College here and majored
in Business Education. She later
taught commercial subjects in Mt.
Airy for three years. Miss Mat
thews obtained her master’s degree
in June at the University of Ten
nessee. She majored in Business
Education and did part-time teach
ing there.
Glenn Veteran of World War II
The assistant football coach, Mr.
Lody Glenn, is also teaching his
tory. He went to Elon College
for two years and to Guilford
College for three years. During
the war, he served overseas as a
lieutenant in the Marines. He ob
tained his master’s degree at Caro
lina. Lody was classified as an
instructor at Chapel Hill and served
Faculty Meetings
Listed for Year
There will be four professional
meetings during the 1951-52 school
year for the Greensboro Public
Schools faculty. The first meeting,
Tuesday, September 4, held at
Central School ,was an organize
tional one.
Three additional meetings will
occur October 1, 1951, at? Brooks
School; January 7, 1951, at Irving
Park School; and March 10. 1952,
at Gillespie School. Topics for dis
cussion will be announced at a
later date.
Other meetings offer opportuni
ties for professional growth, such
as those directed by department
heads. Specific plans will be laid
later.
On October 9. 1951, High Point
will be host to the North Carolina
Education Association Northwest
ern District. However, dates and
place of the state meeting have
not been disclosed.
D.O. Class Officers Chosen
The annual election of D.O.
(trades) class officers was held
last week for the second and
third period classes. Officers
for the second period class are:
president, Larry Russell; vice-
president, Gladys Varner; sec
retary and treasurer, Jean Bar-
ricks. The third period officers
are; president, Tharon Brady;
vice-president, J. D. Phillips;
secretary and treasurer, Jo
anne Stephenson.

Junior High Schools.
Mrs. Reynolds, now teaching
history here at G. H. S., is orig
inally from Oxford, N. C., She
went to East Carolina College
where she majored in history and
math. She later did some teaching
at Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rap
ids. Mrs. Reynolds enjoys Greens
boro and Senior High School very
much and says she can hardly
wait for the football games to start.
Pierce Native of Greensboro
Mrs. Pierce, the new teacher
in Room 1, is teaching biology. She
went to Greensboro College where
she majored in science and math.
She is originally from Greensboro
but has been away for the past
four years teaching in Macon, Ga.,
and Carrboro.
Miss Harrill, the pretty young
teacher in Room 25, came to us
from Bostic, N. C. She went to
Queens College in Charlotte, where
she took a commercial course and
did her practice teaching. She
taught two years in Belmont, N. C.,
and did secretarial work in
church in Charlotte. Miss Harrill
says G. H. S. is a grand school and
she is certainly enjoying her work
with both students and faculty.
Haskins From Salisbury
Mrs. Haskins, teaching Home Ec
onomics at G. H. S. this year, is
from Spruce Pine, N. C. She went
to W. C. U. N. C. and majored in
Home Economics. Mrs. Haskins
came here about a month ago from
Salisbury where she taught at Boy-
den High School.
Mrs. Randolph came here from
Concord, N. C., about a year ago.
She studied at Blue Mountain Col
lege in Mississippi, and at the Bap
tist Seminary in Louisville, Ky.,
where she majored in English and
religious education. She has taught
in Concord and Bluefield, W. Va.,
and was the director of Christian
Education at Grace Methodist
Church here. Many of the stu
dents remember Mrs-. Randolph
from her talk here on “Boy-Girl”
relationships at the Social Stand
ards Day Activities last year. Mrs.
Randolph’s husband, who served in
the Army during the war, was
killed in the Battle of the Bulge.
