Office Workers Are Valuable Servants
At least once during a typical
school day, your class in inter
rupted by a pleasant-looking indi
vidual who is armed with an official
looking white slip. After a brief,
inaudible conversation between the
teacher and visitor, one of your
classmates is summoned to follow
her to the office. The fate of the
individual can be anything from a
skipped study hail discovered, to a
message from home requesting that
you wear your rubbers home if it
rains. No matter what the outcome,
the trip to the office is made more
pleasant by the courteous office-
worker. Delivering messages re
ceived in the office is only one of
the many, many countless tasks that
the efficient office-workers perform
during their hourly job.
The office-workers are divided
into two groups. There are two
girls who remain at Miss Bla'ck-
mon’s desk, and one girl who as
sists Mr. Routh and his secretary,
Mrs. Ellington, during each period.
The duties vary according to the
respective offices. The girls who
serve as assistants to Miss Black
mon are as follows: first period—
Rose Waynick and Pat Harvey;
second period—Becky Amos and
Nan Ahalt; third period—Henrietta
Reed; fourth period—Mary Wisse-
man and Rita Schnieder! fifth pe
riod—Nancy Underwood and Jenny
Lou Wyrick; sixth period—^Nancy
Hitchcock and Kay Latta; and sev
enth period—Dot Thomas and Dot
Stevenson. In order to serve as an
office worker, the girls must have
acceptable grades since they must
be able to give up their study hall.
The girls stap busy throughout
their respective periods with such
duties as answering the telephone,
giving admit cards to students who
are late to class, delivering tele
phone messages, sorting the mail,
and typing for Miss Blackmon. Run
ning errarnds for Mr. Anderson
consists of getting people from
classes and delivering messages.
Calls from home are only delivered
in case of an emergency such as
illness. Although office workers do
not have the authority to adminis
ter sick slips, they can tend to and
doctor any such accidents as a cut
or cinder in someone’s eye. The

Thanksgiving will be extra exciting to all GHS’ers
this year because the Goldsboro-Greensboro football
game will be played that afternoon.
A new suit from the Ellis-Stone Junior Depart
ment could really be put to use during the Thanks
giving holidays, especially for this game.
Boy, the suits in Ellis-Stone are really swell. I was
impressed especially with one, the Hyde Park suit.
This beautiful suit has a shape-retaining drum skirt.
This patented lining construction in the drum skirt
adds: streamline beauty, slim backline, stay-smooth
hipline, beck sleekness, and extra wear. The lining
eliminates sagging at the seat, stretched hipiine,
riding up, frequent pressing and pulling at the
seams. How could anyone go wrong on such mar
velous features? The streamlined coat is buttoned
to the neck with a double collar. The sleeves are
long, with turn-back cuffs. Hyde Park suits come in checks and solids
and are 100%wool. The price is $59.95. So if you are interested in a
new suit, you had better check this Hyde Park. Of course there are
many varieties of suits. If you prefer the full skirt, there is the Vic
toria Junior suit. The skirt is of a solid color while the suit coat is
checked with a soft turn-back collar. At the waist of the coat' there is
padding. This gives a soft rounded hipline effect. It is really good-
looking on. The sleeves, too, have the little turn-back cuffs. This suit,
also 100% wool, has a very nice crepe lining. Sizes range from 9-15.
This Victoria Junior suit is priced at $69.95.
At this point I can tell you about the Victoria Junior coats. These
coats are three-quarter length with a full swing back. The coat is
fashioned with one button at the neck and a scalloped back collar.
One nice feature about the Victoria Junior coat that makes it different
is the adjustable sleeve which can be long or three-quarter length.
The Victoria Junior coat is 100% wool and is priced at $65.00. They
come in brilliant red or gold. Sizes 9-15.
I imagine that Pat Coble, No)rma Veney, Nancy Pugh, and Elaine
Lanier, plus all the rest of you who date those college guys, would be
interested in looking at the above articles in Ellis-Stone. This mainly
is because you go to most of the Carolina games, and suits and toppers
are worn a lot.
I just can’t leave Mary Jane Moring out of this article. My main
reason is that I want to tell you about a blouse that she bought the
other day at Ellis-Stone. Mary Jane was roaming around in the blouse
department and she saw the Haymaker man-tailored shirt with French
cuffs. This blouse is made of Egyptian broadcloth. Mary Jane chose
the red, but it also comes in green, light blue, navy, gold, grape, and
white. It is $5.95 and sizes range from 10-18.
Ellis-Stone would be pleased to have you girls come in and look over
their fine stock of Cashmere sweaters. They carry many well known
brands. Premier is one of my favorite Cashmere sweaters. The Premier
short sleeve pull-over sweater is $15.95. It comes in soft yellow, black,
blue, red, and navy. One gorgeous Premier sweater is the light grey
heather long sleeve pullover for $16.95.
Cardigans are $19.95 and they come in red, purple, and natural. There
are a great many more Cashmer esweaters that I haven’t mentioned,
in all colors and sizes.
These sweaters and blouses come in handy to add the finishing touch
to those sporty suits for football season. (Adv.)
