j Page Eight High Life March 28, VOCATIONAL CLASSES PLAN BANQUET Chancellor House Is Featured Speaker Amid a flurry of invitations, place cards, programs, and various plans, the students of both the Diversified Occupations and Dis tributive Education classes are striving to make their Ninth An nual Bosses’s Banquet as success ful as the eight previous pro grams have been. This event, which is sponsored annually by the D. O. - D. E. cooperative part- time program of GHS, will be staged in the Masonic Temple on April 8 at 7:30 P.M* The Bosses’s Banquet is design ed by the students to honor em ployers and other persons who play important roles in the co operative program. Both students and their bosses look forward to this festive occasion when for mality is shed, and employers and employees become better ac quainted. Polished plans for the tradi tional Bosses’s Banquet are being discussed by a committee formed by presidents of D. O. and D. E. Clubs. Larry Russell, J. D. Phil lips, Jaynelle Martin, Bob Gold berg, Becky Phipps, and Carolyn Royal are holding regular sessions in order to complete preparations for the banquet on April 8. Approximately 300 will attend the program, including students, their employers, and special guests. Representatives of the Greensboro Chamber of Com merce. Greensboro Industries, Greensboro Merchants’ Associa tion, North Carolina Employment Service, North Carolina State College, Woman’s College, Na tional Office Managers Associa tion, Greensboro City School Board. State Department of Pub lic Instruction, and the Greens boro News Company have received invitations. School personnel, former co-ordinators, and co ordinators from schools of the surrounding area are included on the guest list. Chancellor Robert B. House of the University of North Carolina will be the featured speaker at the annual affair. When the re nowned educator, author, and editor addresses the group con cerning “Resources,” he will have his notes handy, in the form of his famous mouth harp. Entertaining numbers will be presented by talented students of the cooperative part-time program T.IBoone Tailorii 126 W. Sycamore Slacks $1^.75 You Design ’em We Make ’em The precision dancers from Radio City, New York, the Rocketts, made a personal appearance during the campaign speeches. The young dancers performed one of their most difficult acts, and were received with great ovation by the student body. They are left to right: Unknown Female, Dickie Chalk, Alan Sharp, Jack Hardin, Lawrence Beall, and Jimmy Tunstall. UNCSIudenI Teacher Observes Classes Recently the Science Depart- ment under the direction of Miss Blackburn has been under the observance of a certain Mr. R. m Litaker of the University of North Carolina, student teacher Mr. Litaker has been observing all phases of the classes offered by the Science Department of this school. In addition to the Biology classes. Chemistry and Physics Classes, Mr. Litaker has beeii observing the Family Life Classes for which he will prepare an audit At present Mr. Litaker, a native of Concord, North Carolina and an air force pilot in the last war, is doing undergraduate work at the University toward a B. S. de gree. He will graduate this year and plans to enter some phase of school or community health edu cation. Litaker says that he is deeply impressed with the efficient mov ing of the student body between classes. He stated that Greensboro High was the largest high school he had ever been in and was also one of the nicest. at the Bosses’ Banquet. Glenda Cox and Shirley McEntire are rehearsing a specialty number on skates, while Sylvia Shore pre pared to do the Charleston for the guests. Slated to appear as vocal soloists are Larry Russell and Louise Clark; Betty Welborn and Joanna Smith will offer a piano duet. A barber shop quartet formed by Bob Goldberg, Larry Russell, Gene Stout, and James Gordon will top off the student entertainment. Gene Frederick and Keenan Neese will fill the positions of master and mistress of cere monies. Place cards, entertain ment, and decorations will carry out the Springtime motif. Last minute plans will be com pleted before April 8 by the stu dents of the cooperative program. Members of Miss Browne’s classes have designed programs and place cards. This group will also handle seating arrangements at the Masonic Temple. Talented D. O. and D. E. stu dents have been auditioned by a committee of Judges from Mr. Jones’ classes which are in charge of entertainment. In Mrs. Hodden’s classes stu dents are planning decorations Ferrell Appears on Television Program Henry Ferrell, editor of High Life, appeared on Edward R. Mur- row’s “See It Now” program at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, March 16. Henry gave his views of President Truman after hearing him speak at a banquet climaxing the 28th annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association Meet. “I was impressed more with what Mr. Truman represented than the man himself. The Presi dent seemed to be just an average man to me. But at the present time the United States needs more than an average man in the White House,” said Mr. Ferrell. Henry also conducted a round table discussion on how an editor solves his problems. and a menu for the annual banquet. April 8 is an important date on the Spring calendar of each D. O. and D. E. student.
