April 11,1952 High Life Page Five GHS Band To Play For Student Body Daily Doubles By Lois Pond On April 15, the Greensboro Senior High Band will present to the assembled student body a pre view of the music for the forth coming State Contest to be held in the latter part of April. Selec tions for this program include warm-up march, “San Lorenza” by di Silva. Wagner’s “Prelude and Love Death” is next followed by Mendelson’s “Overture for Band.” “Espana Rhapsody” by Chabrier and “An Impression of George Washington’s Bridge” by Schuman conclude the list of Con test music. “An American Week end” by Marrissey will also be performed but it is not included in the music for the Contest. For several years the Greens boro Band has received “Su perior,” the highest rating possi ble, in the State competition. The band chooses the warm-up march and one other selection. The re maining pieces to be performed are selected by the judges from the four named by the band. Negativists Triumph in Triangular Debates GraduateofSenior Elected to Oflice Miss Katherine Foster, a grad uate of Greensboro Senior High School, was elected publicity chair man of the Sullins College junior class this week. Miss Foster is a member of the editorial board of the Sulims Re flector, college newspaper, presi dent of, and publicity chairman for the Radio Workshop, and is a member of the Sullins Chorus, the Vested Choir, the Carolina Club, and the Red Cross. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Foster, 208 Waverly Way. We have just learned the reason they call a sailboat “she” is because it makes the best showing in the wind. —Swiped. The Daily Doubles this week met last January and started going steady April 28. She is a member of the orchestra and president of homeroom 206; he is a member of the band, Order of the Arrow, and vice-president of homeroom 206. They like to spend their spare time gomg to the movies and watching T. V. Their favorite food is popcorn. Her pet peeve is peo ple that creep down the halls when she is in a mad dash to get to class; he has no comment. Who are they? The couple in the last issue of High Life was Mary Ellen Rierson and Bob Phillips. J. Reynold High School’s affirmative team in a contest at High Point in the annual triangular debates held between High Point, Winston- Salem, and Greensboro. The topic for debate was “RE SOLVED: That All American Citizens Should Be Subject to Conscription for Essential Service in Time of War.” Each speaker in the debate was given a twelve minute time limit on his speech, besides a five minute limit on the rebuttal. High Point’s negative team beat Greensboro’s affirmative team of Dave Wright and Barbara Massey at Winston-Salem. In the next few days the nega tive teams from the three compet ing cities will go to Woman’s Col lege where district eleminations will be held.
