Proof lies in the story of teachers wro spent their holidays in extraordinary fashion. ‘South of the border,. down Mexico way” journeyed Miss Powell, Miss Dorothy McNairy, and her sister, Miss Carolyn Mc Nairy, principal of Irving Park School. By car they traveled approximately four weeks taking in the sights and wonders of the truly deep South. Guadalajara, the second largest city of Mexico, was their first major stop on the itinerary. From there they motored through the mountainous desert to Mexico City, Cuernavaca, and Acapulco on the coast. However, the equatorial heat soon drove them northward over pourly constructed highways which allowed an average of 180 miles per day. Watch Film Stars While tarrying in an elite hotel of Mexico City the three teachers watched movie stars Shelley Win ters and her husband, Arturo Guissmann, Cyd Charisse, Tony Martin, and Ricardo Montalban filming a current movie. Sombrero Later, innocent bystanders as thev were, they nevertheless were trapped in a tear gas raid when police attempted to break m a post election riot. Only the gorv spectacle of a bull fight marred the trip for the souvenir collectors Excitement and beauty are abund' ant in Mexico, according to the seasoned tourists. Miss Tuttle, spent her summer at Pennsylvania State with Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians There were representatives from choral groups and musicians from almost every state in the Union Hawaii, and several foreign com- tries. Altogether there were over 300 present. They discussed new music and studied the work oi professional organizations. Also present was Lara Hoggart, the Chora! director of the Pennsyl vanians.
